Hey Guys,

I have a question about the turbo wastegate on my truck. I have a 2004 Dodge Ram Cummins 4x4 Automatic. Under normal driving keeping the turbo boots under 15psi the wastegate acts fine. But if you have the psi above 15 or so everythime it shifts it blows the wastegate open and makes a loud noise. It got worse after I install my ATS Transmission in it. I installed the Banks Big Head Wastegate to see if that would help, it did but I still can get it to blow around 18psi and above. And IF you hold it to the floor and let it shift though the gears it doesnt do it at all.

Has anyone ever had this issue? is there any kind of repair?

Thanks for your help!!!!

Hard to tell for sure, but, from your sig and description I'd say your barking the turbo not blowing the waste gate open. ;)

If you are "barking" the turbo, yes that is bad for it. Possible I guess if the shifts are really quick at light throttle but 15-18 psi isn't exactly light throttle.

How much max boost will it make? I assume this is a 305 hp engine right?

ok, is that bad for it????

Yeah, its bad. That poor little HE341 won't take too much of that before it grenades. The turbo is too small for more than minimal fueling mods and if you have a good trans with a tighter converter it drops the rpm's too much on a shift.

Can you describe the sound a little better just to make sure we are talking about the right thing? :)

What you are say about the sound that it makes is right. I have a early 04, the 305/555 motor. I most psi i have seen is 33psi. The sound gets worse when i tow. I'm concerned about messeing something up. I cannot afford a new turbo right now. If you change turbos will this go away???

is anyone around the Atlanta area who can listen to it??? I have gotten used to the shifts and i rarly get it to make the sound. but sometimes it happens.
