2nd gen Cummins transfer case problems

Wont start, questions about priming

Hello Folks,

Upon visually inspecting engine on my 96, I noticed the wastegate looks very "crusty". Michigan salt is not friendly to my truck. Turbo ID plate says Holset 353-919, model HK351

Today I plan on testing operation with compressed air (book say 15-20 psi).
If I find issues, Im looking for suggestions on where to purchase.
I see prices all over the place from questionable $19 ebay units (china?) to over $350 for specialty performance units. Im just looking for a decent stock unit at a reasonable cost, if needed.
Im open to suggestions.
thank you

hi, i dont know if there is a problem....i just wanted to try to check it today with compressed air, which i have not done yet. the unit is very rusty.

im dealing with the damn cellular phone service...i should have packed a lunch before i called them!

I had to replace mine because of a boost leak. It showed up when the shop connected a smoke machine to the intake. Since then I learned how to make a smoke machine of my own via the interweb and some videos. Not expensive but I did end up with about 99 ft of resistance wire I'll probably will never need. I'll send you some if you want to make your own machine.

Thanks GAmes, i will look up that test with the smoke.
at 430k miles, and the extreme rust on the wastegate actuator, im concerned about its condition.
