I believe that the wastegate is sticking shut on the stock turbo of a 2001 CTD with the automatic. The indications that I am getting that has brought me to this conclusion is that everytime that I tromp on the gas and get the turbo to spin up it is going all the way up to 35 psi of boost. The stock specs for this turbo is max of 22psi. Additionally if I tromp on it then let off on the pedal real quick I am getting turbo stall and it is making a real bad grinding noise. Does anybody know a way of cleaning the wastegate without taking the entire turbo apart or buying a new one.

I'm sure you know there is an actuator in there that opens and closes the wastgate. This actuator has a diaphram that is notorious for leaking (failing). It should throw a code but not always. I just replaced mine and it made a world of difference. Before I had been blaming the Edge EZ but that was not it. You can get all kind of wierd symtoms, especially under a load.
