Look on the front of your turbo (just under the intake hose) You will see a small rubber line that comes out of the front, and goes back toward the rear part of your turbo, just plug or kink that line. I would get some guages first though man, just my . 02
Can someone briefly explain why plugging the wastegate line is beneficial. I put a new elbow on mine. . it was off of a 24v chip kit and is supposed to increase boost I guess. But I'm not sure about the plugged vs non-pluged/new elbow.
The wastegate prevents the pressure from building up past a set amount of pressure in the turbo. If you plug the rubber tubing off, the sky is the limit up to what your turbo is capable of producing. The more WOT or heavy footing you do, the higher the pressure made. This would be a great time to have at least a turbo pressure gauge to know how much pounds of air you're feeding into your intake manifold. The new elbow that TST sells slows up the wastegate response to limit the pressure but still has a cap so you don't overpressure the engine. I hope I helped. Herb
Many folks are mistaken more boost is better. Without more fuel more boost will get you nowhere. Boost over 35 psi does absolutely nothing except put a stain on your intake system, the intercooler is only rated at 50 psi. The wastegate is there so you obtain adequate boost at low rpms without overboosting at high rpms. The lower your boost the better your mpgs. You can plug your wastegate but without adding more fuel you will see little gain in power.
I have moved the stock plate ahead 60 thousandths. To me this really made a nice difference in the top end power. Will there be any harm in clamping off the wastegate? I do have the boost gauge and egt in place to keep a close eye on things. Currently at WOT i get 20 on the boost gauge.
I don't mind a healthy puff of smoke on acceleration but I would like it to clear off as I hit the higher RPM's
Someone catch him quick before he slies down that slippery bombing slope!
Chet - plugging the wastgate gave me some more power but it also lowered my egt when towing hard. You can control the boost with your right foot. Get a plate -it made a Lot more difference than sliding the stock plate forward.
