on my 97 ram I was wondering if I can plug my wastegate off... . i have heard of people doing this... . what is the advantages and disadvantages..... and does it hurt the engine at all!

You can get an adjustable brass elbo to set the wastegate at a higher boost.

Don't just plug it as you can overspeed the turbo. You can also open up the wastegate hole and drill the center divider for better control of boost.

Hey Fox I am really curious as to how you like you twin set up?? I am seriously thinking of putting a s400 under my stock 35... Do you have any external wastgates?? How is spool up?? Thanks Wesley

With stock to mild fueling you can't hurt anything. Most stock auto trucks will only see in the mid to high 20 psi range most the time.

I know a friend that did that with his 02, and even with the extra power, has had problems with it. With his adding fuel, he has to constently keep his foot out of it because it will spike over 1500 degrees and he has told me that when under load, the turbo would be spooling so fast that it would chirp and try to backspool ( don't know a lot about that one) if he would slow the engine too fast. Either way, when it came time to go that route with my 99, I went with the actuator and the elbow from Banks. I have noticed a 3 p. s. i bump up on boost by the actuator, and a 100-150 degree drop by the elbow between the turbo and the exhaust pipe.

I love the twins!!! No external gates, but I am prepared to add one, but with the fuel I have I don't need one.

It spools up nicely, as high as 55 lbs.

I had been running a SPS62. It was terrible for towing.

I had the wastegate disconnected on mine for 3 years. After doing the power mods the EGTs would get high.

Having the wastegate connected and set to open at the right psi is better than trying to squeeze all that hot exhaust gas through the turbine. A 35 is only going to do so much anyway, might as well dump that extra exhaust after you build about 30 psi.

The 40 will move more air. I had one and if I remember correctly it was set at 35. It is best to use the wastegate to let some exhaust bypass it when at high boost than to run it hard and hot.
