2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Who has changed the rubber fuel lines ?

I was driving 70 mph yesterday and noticed my fuel pressure was only 10 psi, I have the Fass 95 and the pressure is usually about 14.

I know the new ULSD is highly detergent and changed my filter after the first 5 or so tankfuls, but I had only gone 3294 miles since that change.

I pulled the filter and it "looked" good, but did the blow thru thing..... man was it plugged. I only get my fuel (unless traveling) from 1 large local truck stop, that sells 10,000 gal daily...

Anyway, pressures are back to nomal, but only 3294 miles on a filter???#@$%!
 
you will not believe how many people measure fuel pressure on the supply side of the filter they only worry about the lift pump and not the filter the only place to check the pressure is the supply line to the injection pump. your post is good
 
What is the "blow thru thing", and how do you do it?



I have a small funnel that matches the sealing surface of the element, I use the heal of my hand to block off the other side, and blow or suck thur the pleats of the filter. If you compare to a new filter, you can really tell the difference.
 
Could be your fuel tank float level is disintegrating also. This is why i elected to retain the OEM filter unit. Its a good last resort catch for particles that have either made their way past the fass or come from hoses themselves, or wherever, nice to have plenty of filtering.

If it is the float, I assume the fuel gauge will read empty all the time... .

What pressure are you seeing at the VP-44?
 
Even if you have modified your fuel system, the very last, last, last, thing before the VP44 should be a pretty tight fuel filter. "Stuff" could sluff off the inside of any line any where.



I filter 10 um (#1) the fuel the very first thing out of the tank to keep the fuel system clean for the lp system (RASP). Then I do not use the OEM fuel filter because of the heat transfered to the fuel, but my final, final, fuel filter (#2) is 8um with AN-12 ports (3/4") to be sure no restriction in the flow. Filter mounted on the front cross member.

Mine has been disintegrating for a few years. It has lost a lot of black material, but still floats. Not saying for sure that is the problem here, but it is a common occurrence in our trucks.
 
For floats you have 3 options.



1. Change it with a DC float. Get new one on EBay.

2. Read my thread on floats about replacing the DC float with the mechanical float that connects into the DC canbus wiring.

3. There is a TDR member that is using the capactiance probe.



IF your float is deterroiating then you probably need to clean the tank cannister screens as a minimum. Getting into the tank is not near as daunting as it seems. VP44's are $$$$. $$, getting into and back out of the tank is a one day exercise.
