Ok, so I am brand new to diesel. In fact I never had an intention of getting one someday, but the new world of towing an RV dictated it.

I am wondering about the fuel filter, and how often they need to be checked and drained? If I wait til the light comes on that could be an inopportune time to go crawling under the truck. I did find the rear, but haven't looked too hard for the front one yet.

Any tips? Most of my search results were for changing the filters...

I have a 2015 Ram 2500 6.7.

Thanks

I have had 3 diesel pickups for a total of 500,000 miles and have never had the light come on for water in fuel. But I've always bought fuel at a high volume station if at all possible, change the filter and cleaned housing religiously and been extremely careful to keep water out of my fuel. Even the tiniest amount of fuel can ruin the entire fuel system so if the light does come on stop immediately and drain it out and find out where it came from and eliminate the source of contamination.

The normal interval is 15k miles, there is a reminder that will show up in the evic.If that warning is ignored a more serious sounding warning message will appear

To drain the rear filter, get 18-24" of 5/16" clear plastic tubing to push on the drain bib. SNOKING

Welcome to the TDR. I know by reading the owners manual you would think you must crawl under the truck weekly to drain them. I have been driving Cummins powered Rams since 1990. I have never had the water in fuel message appear on any of my three trucks. I just replace the filters every 12 to 15k. I have never drained them out of caution either. I have not seen any water during filter changes. Maybe I have just been lucky with clean, dry fuel, but if it ever did show that message I would drain them immediately. Happy hunting in your new truck.

Just drained the engine mounted filter. The same piece of 5/16" hose fit nicely inside the short hose RAM put on this drain. No Water! SNOKING

When you get down here I will let you show me how to drain both filters so be sure to bring than new hose with! :)

I will buy enough for both of us to have a hose of their own. I one I used is a little short. Snoking
