Before I went on my 250 mile round trip to the lake I cleaned out my crankcase breather bottle. I relocated it a while back and is easy to get to. I pulled it just to see what if anything was inside. I was suprised when about 1 to 2 ounces of water came out. As you can see from my sig that a snow kit was added a short time back. Any thoughts on this? Thanks

Potential for various forms of lube contamination are EXACTLY why I dislike some of the aftermarket breather setups that end up routing blowby back into the crankcase - it was bad enough years back when we were using PCV valves... :(

Blowby vapors can be NASTY - and need to be kept OUT of the engine, as far as I'm concerned... ;)

The water was not coolant. It was like drinking water. It must be condensation,i guess I dont quite understand whats happening as far as the crank case vent goes. I routed the bottle rite in front of the drivers side tire. (minor plumbing)

Water is a by-product of combustion. This is the steam you see coming from cars tailpipes in the winter as it condenses when it hits the cold air. A small amount of these combustion gases make it into the crankcase. Once the oil temp gets high enough, the water is vaporized and exits out of the crankcase vent where it will condense in the hose / puke bottle.

This crankcase dilution is why short trips are bad. The oil can't get hot enough to burn off the contaminants.

Re-route your crankcase vent down to the ground, as they always were. You won't be putting any worse stuff on the roadwy than the idiots who throw their garbage out the window. EVen less than your exhaust. FUnny how the old CHevy 6's ran the vent down to the ground, got great mileage, and passed every emission test know to the motoring public, isn't it?

YUP - and 427 Fairlane Fords and similar GM, and Chrysler Hemis in Chargers - no EGR or smog pumps - but that was THEN - and this is NOW... ;):-laf

EPA and their ever tightening smog laws might make those old memories attractive - but won't change the reality of today... ;)
