Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) water in fuel light on

I have a 2 k dually and the water in fuel wtf light came on so I pulled over and drained the filter valve and didnt see any water that I could tell and light is still on so I unhooked the sensor wires and the light is still on,? I also noticed that my Oil Pressure gauge stoped working and check gauges light on and off at times too so I pulled off the oil pressure wire and now my WTF water in fuel light is out, when I hook up the wire to the oil pres the wtf light comes back on? so im lost, it was working good until all of this happens, truck runs good though it seems to be weaker when the oil pres wires are taken off? anyone have ideas? its a stock auto truck with cummins 24 valve engine!

Any codes? Might be a 5v supply circuit problem.

Start by going to Auto Zone to see if they can pull any error codes with their code reader. Let us know what you find. Also follow the wires that go to the fuel and oil sender to see if they are run in proximity to each other. Could be that wires have chaffed somewhere and are now rubbing each other. I had to replace my WIF sensor a few years ago, but it didn't affect anything else.

I didnt have any check engine codes, So I went ahead and changed the oil press sensor with a spare that I had laying around and believe it or not my water in fuel WTF light went out and my Oil pressure now works! I wouldnt have thougt they would be together????? go fiqure?

Good, I didn't know the two worked together but have seen many oil pressure sensors take a dump. Kinda wierd, but at least it's working now.

Maybe the two sensors use a common circuit somewhere in the display panel and when the oil pressure sensor suffered a short or failure it affected the WIF circuit. If the light is on with the connector disconnected it isn't WIF.



I had my fuel filter changed before a trip several months ago and the tech? left the WIF sensor cable hanging down by the front axle. 2,000 miles later I entered a horendous downpour just as I came into Casper, WY. The WIF light came on amidst a bunch of semis! Wheee; wife flips. Long story short, I fouled the roadside with some drained fuel and limped in to a nearby Speedy Lube where it was dry enough to see anything, figuring I needed a new filter, at the least. Cable was hanging straight down and hard to see in the rain. Needless to say, the dealer got an earful when I got back. The sensor connector got saturated and took 100 miles to completely dry out, blinking the light on and off during that time.
