My water in fuel light has a mind of it's own. I've checked the easy stuff: actual water in fuel, sensor, bulb, connections, to no avail. I'll be driving down the road and hit a bump (front end only) and the light will come on and then go off or it might stay on for the next twenty miles and then go off. I've tried starting the truck and jiggling wires under the hood and behind the dash and can't get the light to come on. Rainy conditions do not cause a change. I finally pulled the bulb for three years and put it back in the other day (considering selling the truck) and it still does the same thing.

My truck did same thing. The two wires on fuel canister were shorting out,
when I was in rain storm or going threw car wash. As soon as they dried
out, light would go out. I am not sure if you have same setup because of
difference in age.

thanks, I'll look at that, too. Mine seems to be related to truck movement- bumps/dips/hard braking. A buddy of mine has a short finder, but it's kind hard to use while you're in motion! Sitting in my driveway everything is fine.

If you happen to have the PrimeLoc fuel filter relocation, try loosening the fuel sensor a little bit. Just ran into this on my 95 and found the cure on TDR! If you have the stock fuel filter, can't help much. Might check to see if sensor is shorted with ohm meter. Should be about 30k to 40k ohms.

I too had the lite come on after this last filter change, steady, read on here back off the sensor a little and by George, it worked. yours- probably the wires.
