On my truck anytime the engine compartment gets wet (driving on wet roads, playing in the water and washing it) the water in fuel light comes on. I stop and check the filter and never had anything but diesel come out. Whats the deal?

TIA

Water is shorting out the wires at the connection to the sensor. Pull the connector apart and apply di-electric grease to the prongs and put it back together.

Or you can live with it, won't hurt anything.

Often the covering on the wires will fray right where they are molded into the plastic (94-96's), which can cause this too. You can replace the WIF sensor, Cummins is cheaper. < $40.

As Bill said, clean the connector too, if the frayed/exposed cable isn't the prob. You can also clean the connector if you have the 97-98 canister style too.

Good luck
