Water in Fuel Sensor ?

Good Afternoon everybody,



I have a 93 and I broke the wires on the sensor at the bottom of the fuel filter, in fact the wires broke off right at the connector, so now I must buy a new one.



My questions are what is the correct name for this part? And should my local auto part store have this item? If not where can I get this item??

I replaced the one on my '93 a while back for the same reason. Just go to Cummins and ask for a "water in fuel" sensor, I think Geno's carries this item also. Your corner auto parts store probably will not have it.

Before you buy the new sensor, check to be sure that the rest of the system is still working... To check, take the 2 wires you broke off and strip them back. Then with the key in the run position twist them both together...

The "water in fuel" light in the message center should light. . Then pull them apart. the light should go out... If it does not light there is not much point in replacing the sensor untill you find the rest of the problem...

Many of the water in fuel lights no longer work in the first gen trucks. .



There is a small circuit board that presses on the back side of the main message center circuit board. . The small board is what controls the water in fuel circuit. . It often goes bad... I do not think that it is still available from Chrysler.

The threads on my sensor got boogered up by the previous owner, so I just ditched the whole set up and am now running a FF1221 (might be an "FS"). It has a drain on the bottom you screw out to let the water drain out. I drain mine every 1000mi or so, just to be safe. Dont have to drain the whole fitler, just enough to let any water out.

I enjoy eliminating most all electrics on my trucks. The WIF sensor was one of the first to go. The lamp would come on then go off. Then I'd change the filter after I tried the method of draining out all the fuel several times. A pain in the rear.



So then the lamp would come on at times with the new filter and fresh fuel. I only have so much of a fuse when it comes to that kind of thing. Like a wait to start lamp. Maybe I don't want to wait. Maybe I don't want the truck telling me what to do... ... ... .....
