Help ! I have a '95 3500 /automatic 4x4, and I'v changed fuel filter + fuel- in water sensor. I installed a (Prime-Lock fuel relocation kit) eight years ago. The problem is,the "water- in-fuel light" stays on. I'v drained some fuel into a glass jar, no water in the fuel? When trouble shooting I pulled off the connection from the fuel filter and when I turn on the key, it goes through its cycle and the light goes out (with the water-in- fuel sensor) disconnected!! -reconnect the sensor and recycle the key and the light stays on!!I'm not sure how the sensor really works- going through the electronics. I could just buy another sensor, but I could be throwing good money after bad!! I noticed when I was changing the fuel filter one of the wires was broken? I did'nt give it much thought - since I was replacing both the filter and the sensor. To make a long story short; what if this is the way the circuit should work, if you break a wire to the sensor you would never know if you had -water in your fuel. Help- I'm missing somthing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the same on my old '05 2500 4x4 with the primelok. The wire was loose, must have been shorted up in the sensor, replaced it... all was good. I figured it must have wore from changing the filter ever 10,000... 392,000 when we sold it. And yes the light would go out if I disco'd the sensor. If I understand it correctly, the two probes or contacts sticking up conducts electrical current through water not diesel. With the broken wire; if it was raining, water would splash up on the bottom of the sensor and short out there too. hope that helps.

I don't have the Prime-Lock set-up, but a few years ago I bought a replacement water-in-fuel sensor; not because I was having any problems with the original, I just thought it was time to put a new one in while I was replacing the filter. I don't remember now if I got the replacement sensor from Dodge or not, but after I put the new filter and sensor in i had the light..... didn't have it before I put the new one in. I put the old one back in and the light went out; haven't had any light issues either.
