On my 97 dodge there is a puddle of water on the passenger side carpet after it rains. It’s not coming from the door seal, and its not dripping down anything. Its almost like its coming up through the bottom, which defies the laws of gravity. I have used a hose to try and find the leak. I will start pulling everything apart soon, but thought I would ask here for advice. Maybe someone has already had this problem

The most likely cause of that is the third brake light over the back window. The water will run down one side to the floor behind the interior trim. The rear floor is raised a little bit and shaped so that there are what amounts to rain gutters on both sides. The result is that if the third brake light or the rear window leaks you find water in the floor in front.

the ac evaporator drain was the source of the right side mystery water in my truck, i extended the tube that pokes through the firewall and killed the problem, the water likes to run back into the cab by following the tube back through the firewall

I had a mystery leak some time ago, finally found out that water running off the pasenger side door window, went inside the door, and instead of draining out the bottom of the door, it found a way past the improperly installed speaker sheild, and went down the inside of the door panel, and ran onto the carpet just inside of the rocker panel cover. removing and properly reinstalling the speaker shield, then adding some extra plastic sheeting inside the door and the leak was gone.

I also spent weeks looking at a/c and third brake light, tried the hose around the door, nothing.

good luck

leak

the light behind the cab above the rear window is sun beaten, and there is a gap in the weather stripping, so I sealed it up with silicone. I don't use the ac, so i don't think it is the drain. I will put some paper toweling along the bottom of the door near the speaker to see if that might be the problem. Not sure if those panels just pull out.

thanks for the ideas

One other thing that you might inspect is the gutter caulking above the windshield. I realize there are differences between my 1st gen and your newer model truck. On my truck there is a seam under the caulking. Mine deteriorated and leaked down the front door post under the trim onto the floor. I didnt find the source until the caulk had pealed away enough to allow water to drip onto the dash one day in a heavy rain. Had to scrape out all the seam sealer and replaced it with silicone. Hope this helps. Most people dont look at the roof of their vehicle unless it is below eyelevel=). GregH
