A buddy of mine just bought a 97 ext. cab and he's been noticing that when it rains the floor on both sides is wet, it seems to be coming in around kick panels somewhere because nothing else is wet. Headliner is all dry, just both sides of floor. Door seals look good, any suggestions.

Same problem here with my '97 ext. cab. both front floor boards have been getting soaked with all the rains here in florida. My leak is coming around the rear window gasket at each top corner. There is a black piece of plastic on each side of the roof that meets the top corners of the rear window gasket. I can park the truck pointing downhill and apply water to these spots and it will flood the front floorboards. My headliner is also dry and third breaklight does not leak.

Travis,

The most common thing that causes that is the third brake light. It leaks and the water runs around the back window to the floor without any indication that there is a leak. The rear floor is raised a little so that the sides are like a rain gutter. The first place the water shows up in the front on the floor. This is not the only thing that can leak, but it is the most likely.

Yep, that is just what mine did. This has been a dry year around here, but on the way back from Terre Haute, we ran into what was left of Hurricane Katrina in Louisville. both front floorboards were wet when we got home. I took out the third brake light and resealed with some clear rtv. dried out the carpet and it has been dry ever since then. it was cheap to fix (free).

garrrrrrhh!

front drivers side puddle today.

that bothers me all night and day... .

head liner is dry. . will try to seal the brake light tomorrow. if that doesn't do it what do you use? urethane black & gooey?

I sealed mine with a bunch of clear silicone sealant. Then eventually, when the truck was repainted, I had the brake light shaved and the hole welded shut. ( I was adding the sleeper cab shortly thereafter and it had a 3rd brakelight)
