Rear ended, what to look for

My 2004 2500 Laramie Quad Cab has twice had a bad water leak in the cab. The situation is that the truck was parked at a nose-up incline for two severe rain storms. The carpets were soaked and there was standing water in the storage compartments under the rear seat. Moisture must have wicked from back to front because the front carpet was dry. The inside wall of the back of the cab had moisture (behind the back seat). The first time this happened I suspected the cargo lamp assembly, cuz you may have noticed that the shape of the plastic is a poor fit to the body here, and the gasket seemed shot. I removed the assembly and sealed the heck out of it, sprayed it with hose, and got no moisture inside. I was then surprised by the second time it leaked under the same circumstances. Any thoughts on other places of the cabin that are not water tight? Could it be the sliding rear window? Is there something special to parking it at an angle that is allowing rain to get in? I was going to buy one of those cab covers from Geno's but wanted to hear other opinions about a genuine fix.

Do you have cab clearance lights? If so, that's your source and it has been well documented on this site. If you don't have clearance lights, well then, I don't know! Good luck in your hunt!

There is several fixes, Dodge has upgraded clearance lights you can use or there are several aftermarket ones you can use. Just have to choose which way you want to go. I have the same issue but can not make up my mind which way to go. I think I am going with the aftermarket ones because I can get smoked lenses.

So this will involve the purchase of new lights. It is not possible to silicone them or something of that nature?

The new lights have a gasket that comes up the side of the lights. You are also supposed to buy 10 little square plastic nuts as well, but they are expensive. I'm sure you could find some in the after market cheaper. They recommend you change all 5 due to difference in looks. Shadrach

I just went through this with mine, so far all i've done is tighten the screws and it has stoped the lights from leaking, carpet still dry after several rain storms, i'll try putting silicone on the screws when i have more time, if yours is coming from the back i would try a little silicone on the cargo light screws and or gasket. Good luck
