I wanted to get feedback from other high mileage members on when their water pump went out. I just replaced my alternator because it went out last week. The water pump is so inexpensive that I was pondering replacing it as preventative maintenance. My 06' had a bad pump that froze up at 36K and left the truck stranded. It's a lot cheaper to just replace the pump than to take a chance of being stranded somewhere. Towing alone could cost more than parts and labor for a new pump.

I'd also like to hear how long the AC compressors have lasted before failing. I'm at 181K on my 02'. I'm in Texas so my AC get used heavily. Probably 150K of the total has been with the AC on.

I'm currently at 327K miles. Water pump was replaced at 230K. The only A/C issue I've had was I had to replace the line that runs around the top of the passenger side fender. It had rubbed against the other line where they cross right next to the radiator.

415,900 miles and pretty sure I have the original AC compressor. AC works great. Water pump died right before my eyes while idling in the driveway, no warning. That was one of the most convenient breakdowns ever. Happened around 390,000.

I replaced my water pump when I did my KDP about 4 years go at about 150K miles... just for routine maintenance reasons. I bought the truck used about 5 years ago. It looked like the original water pump. I got a NAPA replacement and it lasted 2 years. Then that NAPA one went out after a year.

I wish I kept my original water pump. Maybe the Cummins/dealer pump is more reliable. Next time I'll try a Cummins water pump.

Although a penny pinching tighwad by nature, I have slid the other way on Cummins stuff. I won't put any aftermarket item on my Cummins unless I can't get it from Cummins. Costs more, sure, but dependability and longevity more than make up for it.

I'm learning that lesson the hard way Don.

402k still on original water pump and A/C (A/C used a lot). Both are quiet and smooth. when I was driving OTR I carried a spare water pump and belt. I put 285k on my last belt. I changed it only because they wouldn't pass it at inspection time recently. I had never heard of such. They said because it runs the power steering on most rigs and as such is a safety item and I understand that but on this truck its gear driven so is a non issue. I changed it anyway to make sure they were happy...

My A/C starts to dwindle and needs a bit of a charge every other year or so. Original components.

I replaced the water pump yesterday, Autozone $59. 99 new, not reman. No leaks or anything, I noticed the heat didn't work as well last winter unless I was at heavier than a cruise on the throttle.

175 k

Just because it is new doesn't make it any good! Stick with Cummins parts. 300,000 on my truck with original water pump.

New Napa water pump was made in China for my Suburban. Returned it for a GM reman with a lifetime warranty for less money and made in USA. 15 years and is still working fine.

Side of box says "Made in USA" as did the sticker on the pump. "All that gleams is not always golden", guess time will tell . . .

That's great, I have seen so many things like starters that are NEW but P. O. S. made in China junk. I am sure it will fine.

My water pump went out right after 100,000 put after market in it's still going at 213,000. Only thing that went on my A/C was the high pressure switch.

Usually the more you use the A/C compressor the longer it last. So you guys up in the cold lands turn on that defroster!

Almost 410k miles, Original water pump, no problems. Rebuilt the alternator once. Replaced the belt once.

Sure wish this American stuff would last a while!!!!!!!!!!

my stocker wp went at 236k. and what I mean by "went" was a quarter size drip on the ground out of the weep hole when parked. So I decided to fix in the summer and not in winter, but I went the cheap route this time, new Cardon wp, tstat & antifreeze for about $100 bill. AC does loose some, A $30 can which is good for a couple of times.

A/C condensor cracked at 80 000 miles 700 bucks,,a/c compressors can be had cheap if you know where to go,,,sanden compressors sold in the street rod world are the same ,,and install is simple,,,just need to have it vacuumed down and re charged

all this talk high mileage water pumps making me re think replacing mine at 96000 during a flush and anti freeze change,,,or maybe go get a cummin pump
