Just curious as to how long it should take a dealership to change out a water pump on a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 truck?

Thanks.

Don't really know how long it will take at the dealer but all that is needed to do is remove the serpentine belt and two bolts that hold the water pump to the block. Clean up surfaces, install new pump, replace belt. Done, after topping off radiator. Forgot, dealer needs to drain some cooling fluid into a special place and not the driveway!:D I would think that an hour would be a long time unless you have never done it before and have to locate the tools.

This is exactly why I am going to the local jr college three days a week for four hours, taking diesel mech classes. Self defense. I am running 6 diesel engines. I don't have enough money to get raped repeatedly by unit billing and the several gougers now in the business. I won't come out an ace mechanic, but I won't be bending over as often.

Yep, I replaced Upper & lower Rad. hoses, thermostat, Belt and water pump. Drained and replaced fluid. Poken around I took about 90 min.

It took my dealer two days also, one to get the pump the other to install it. They also reflashed the computer added the high idle, and moved the fuel transfer pump to the tank. Oh yeah, I had the truck until the parts came in then only one day at the dealer.

They didn't stock the water pump because they said they rarely get one that needs replacing. My 91. 5 still has the original pump!

Sounds like there customers are doing there own repairs. I wonder what the dearer charges for the pump because they are only $65 for new, not reman, for Napa. Mine went around 150k and was so loose the impeller was rubbing the block. With no weap hole I was lucky to catch the problem when I was replacing the belt after pullung my Jake Brake vacuum pump in favor of the PAC.

They probably are. If mine wasn't under warranty I would have done it myself. Mine had a weep hole that started leaking about 150 miles from home, on one of our rv trips. I drove it home with no problems.
