I might be needing a water pump. Is Cummins the preferred place to shop ? I got a price from them for about $130 and didnt ask if it was new or reman. Called a dodge dealer and a new one is about $450 with remans avail for about the same as the cummins price.

Cummins item should be brand new, not reman. Did they give you a part number?? If it does not end in "RX" it is a new part.

Thanks, thats what I thought. I was surprised that a water pump from a dodge dealer would be almost 4 times as expensive. Ill be calling cummins just to confirm it is a brand new part, but thats where Ill go.
I drove my truck a little while ago and didnt smell any coolant this time. The level in the bottle was down only maybe a 1/2 inch or less and may have been that way from when I had a coolant service a year ago. But this truck has 120k on it. And from what Ive always read on the tdr, its now probably a good idea to at least keep a spare under the seat. Especially if I go on a road trip.
Thanks again.

I'm at 125K and so far so good but I will buy the Gates pump from Geno's for $40.00 and give it a try when I do need a new one.

Thanks. I have 143K on my truck with the original water pump. I think I'd better be looking for a Cummins parts store. LOL...Thanks!

a few bolts, bit of a pain working the serp belt off and on (don't forget to mark direction of rotation on belt), as well as draining & refilling coolant (perfect opportunity to flush rad and back flush heater core = before winter....) a new pump gasket, might as well pick up a new T-Stat (from too Cummins BTW), it's about a 2 hour (or 3-4 beer) job and "cheap insurance". Consider adding "Water Wetter" with your coolant, every little bit of anti-corrosives helps plus (allegedly) this stuff helps heat transfer. My $0.02
