how to get rid of fuel filters

I was wondering something. The way the water seperator works is by letting the water settle out of the diesel around the filter. When the water is in the tank, it is probably in big drops. The line makes it into smaller drops. This shouldnt be a problem for the seperator, but it goes through the lift pump. This would berak it into very small droplets. Does the water have enough time to fall out of solution in the filter before the flow pulls it through the filter and onto the engine.

just wondering. I was concerned with bad fuel a few weeks ago on a trip.

yea!

Yea, yea, what he said. And on top of that why wouldn't the water seperator be located at the main tank (where the big droplets be settling) rather than right before it gets pushed into the engine?

Don't know the mechanics behind them but fuel/water separators do work even when after the transfer pump. Most of my JD tractors have glass filters, when water comes it stays on the bottom. Removing water from the fuel isn't your biggest concern, what's much worse is the algae the water gets growing.

The water still separates in the fuel filter as it is a lot heavier then diesel. That's why the "water in fuel" sensor is also there, along with the fuel drain lever so you can drain it out. It would be a lot harder to get to under the tank, and would also have to hang down below the tank... ;)
