Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Water Temp Dropped down to less than 140° this morning.

What's the deal? It was only 32°, and as soon as I slow down, water temp dropped down to nothing... It has never done this before, and I am wondering if it could possibly be the thermostat?? Maybe Sending unit? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Most likely stuck open. It's cheap and easy to change.

Quite often the rubber seal on the stock stat will come off and get stuck in the in the open stat not allowing it to close. You can take the stat out and put the seal back on or do what some folks do and just toss it.

On my 96 and 97 when that happened it was a stuck open stat. The Cummins "upgrade" stat didnt get above 155 so I pulled it and use a NAPA stat #370-180 and it works pretty good and was $8 vs cummins at $22
