Just wondering if anyone that has Bombed their truck has noticed any correlation between water temperature and EGT.
I haven't done anything except turn the star wheel on my truck and occasionally when I haul a real heavy air catching load on my truck, the water temp rises pretty good as I accelerate or climb a hill. Since I don't have a EGT gauge I was wondering if anyone's water temp rises as the EGT rises, and if it decreases accordingly as you back out of it.

I have same problem when hauling my 5th. As I push above 60MPH on a continual 2% to 4% incline, I can watch my water temp increase to the point of almost exceeding the upper limits. My EGT also rises, but nowhere near it's limits.

You can see by signature that I'm trying to fix that problem.

Parts on order are Griffin Radiator and Horton Fan

I have never seen the cooling system get too high even towing a back hoe, but my EGT can easily be pushed above 1250 even empty if I say in it too long. I suppose that on a very long hill it would be possible to see high coolant temp but it would be long after the EGT had gone through the roof.

Once warmed up my temp gauge barely moves no matter what kind of load or EGTs. Clogged up raditator fins or fan clutch not engageing could be the problem.

Just got back from a camping trip pulling the 5ver to the smokies and over to North Carolina across I-40 and on long pulls at 1100-1250 egt the water temp will climb on my truck but oh what climbing power on tap,got to love a torque motor like the little 5. 9.

I would say there is some correlation, but the EGT rises (and falls) much faster. If you are "stock", I wouldn't worry too much; EGT will probably stay in an acceptable range. If you are modified, GO GET GAUGES! Your EGT could be too high for several minutes before you see the increases in water temp that scare you into backing off.

Thanks for all the info.
My temp has never gone over 200 to 210 even with heavy loads, so I guess I just have a few too many South Tx bugs in the radiator fins.
