I'm still having problems with water temps. I have a new radiator, new thermostat, and today I just replaced the fan clutch. It has a new cummins temp sender I put in 5000k miles ago when I overhauled the engine. The guage will read 160 when warmed up but will somtimes fluctuate down to about 145. Am I just paradoid it or should I just put an aftermarket guage and sender and forget the factory one.

Thats pretty common, and normal, in these trucks. Especially in the 12v. Running down the road it should stay pretty constant at about 160. Shouldn't have anything to do with trans acting funny. My 97 did this for the 10+ yrs I had it.

Use a coolant temp gauge in the radiator to get a true reading,I believe these gauges in our trucks are off, I know the oil pressure gauge is, they are probably made in CHINA-GARBADGE.

Cummins actually offered a revised thermostat that slowed operation and eliminated that needle swing that alot of us have experienced. It's not hurting anything but I am sure that someone has the part number for it on here. Joe G? Joe Donnelly? Bueller? Bueller?
