I just had the pleasure of emptying my fuel tank going down the highway. Turns out to be a stuck water trap. Is this a common problem? My mechanic replaced under advice from the local Chrysler dealer. Is this a regular maintainence thing?

Stuck water trap? Like the manual valve on the front side of the filter housing didn't close? Mine will stay open if I move the lever to the full open position, spring loaded to close if it is moved out of the full open position. I don't recall hearing of anyone having the housing or valve replaced, some do replace the water-in-fuel sensor...

That was pretty costly at the price of fuel right now. When i drain mine always double check to make sure it isn't leaking when the truck is running(under pressure) I have had them stick open and had to mess with them or press down on it manually to shut it.

mine did that on friday

mine did that on friday i had to take it off clean it up and spray wd40 on it and play with it to get it to work right

Had mine stick open even though it looked closed. Drove home 1 mile and saw a trail or should I say smelled the trail, then saw it. Moved the lever several times, it stayed closed after a few cycles. Now I double check it when I drain the water... ... ..... have never notice much water in the cartridge though. Always shop at station that sell a lot of fuel.

two times ago i had the valve stick open on me, so i took it all apart and cleaned it out, but when i changed my filter on friday night, it stuck open again even though i thought it was closed... dumped a bunch of fuel on the shop floor when i tried to cycle the lift pump, which never shut off and thus kept runnin... made a hell of a mess, its something to check every time you drain the housing and apparently cleaning the valve isn't a lasting fix
