Water worthy

Okay guys, if I want to make my truck a little more water resistant, as in crossing deep rain puddles with confidence, what do I need to do? I know a snorkel, but would a stack help too? And where are these axle vents I hear about all the time? And how would I relocate those "up"? Regular hose? Any help would be great. Just getting ready for next years rain, cuz this years almost stranded me in a lake, that's usually a driveway.

Kalaehina, the vent tubes are just rubber, just follow them up from the axle to where they attach on the frame. There is a small clamp on the ends to hold in the breather valve. Remove the valve, get longer hose and run the vent hose up to where you feel comfortable, and attach the breathers. The front you can run into the engine compartment, and the rear you could fish up near, or inside the fuel door.



Stack(s) would help to, keeps the water from sucking into the pipe if your submerged and let off the go pedal.



Get alot of rain, eh?



Edit, remember to leave enough slack in the hose to accomodate suspension movement, but not enough to get caught on something, or pinched.

JK I lived on Oahu for 5 years and I don't remember any lakes that needed a snorkel but my memory is headed south these days. Hang loose bra

Thanks for the info Rob, yah, we just got a good soaking about a month ago, one of our vans (Ford cutaway) got stuck in a puddle, engine is a gonner. I was so tempted to try to cross that same puddle but my better judgement said "negative!". So I have to lengthen the hose and then attatch that breather to the new end? Thanks again! And stack funds still forming... . SOON!

Wo DHayden! Still got it, the communication skills , yah hard to lose, once you talk ladat. Anyhow this puddle is on the west side where I live, it's on a back road that I do travel occasionally, near a bunch of farms. Alohaz!

Yep, just make sure you have a good water tight connection on the axle end of the hose, and make sure the breather is clear, no obstructions. Fasten the hose accordingly to keep it from pinching, or catching anything, if it gets plugged, or pinched, thats when your axle seals start leakin.

Hi Guys!



I've been really wondering how water proof the computers are... ... ... ? I think the main ecm is attached to the side of the engine, right? If that's so, it will be under way before you need a snorkel. Are they supposed to be water proof? What about the wiring harness connectors? Seems they would have to be water proof also... I really would like someone w/ good info to chime in here vs/ "I think".
