weak flexplates?

Today my truck sounded like the exaust was leaking but it had a hammering sound also. It seemed to come and go. When I got home I crawled under and no exaust problems but the hammering was coming from the rear of the engine or the front of the transmission. Ive heard about cracked flexplates I have no idea what this is any clues?

Sounds like you could have a bad flex plate, i'm on my third, try removing the inspection cover from the front of the transmission and see if any little pieces fall out, and try to turn the torque converter back and forth by hand, if the converter moves the center is probably gone out of the plate ... .....
