the starter wont engage unless the clutch pedal is pushed into the carpet, and when it does, it sounds weak and wont start without throttle. once its started it runs perfect . is there a switch that isnt fully engaging.

What year is your truck? If it's a 97 she won't fire until you give it a little fuel, it's normal. Also the weak start issue could be weak batteries are you plugging it in at night? That will help. All 12 valves can be started with a little fuel and probably should be. You could also have air in the lines and it won't hold it's prime. Just a few things to check but nothing severe. Also check your fuel filter. Happy Holidays, Brian

One of your batteries is more than likely bad. It's best to replace both together. If one is still good find another vehicle with a bad battery to swap it. I hate giving up a good battery as a core.
Diesels need a little extra fuel when cranking to get things happening. Might try turning your idle screw up half a turn. How many revolutions does your engine rotate when cold starting using a little pedal?
Do the Larry B's starter contacts. Only takes an hour and will save money later.

Have your batteries load tested separately. With a multiple battery system you are only as strong as your weakest one.
