Actually, yesterday it registered 104 in town. It wasn't at the airport where the offical temp is taken but 104 is 104 no matter where it is taken at.

104* and Alaska are two things that just do not go well together. I know that they get warm temperatures, but 104*?!?

It's that mountian range down south of us that keeps us warm during the summer and really cold during the winter. Not to mention that we are out in the middle of bum... . , er, well, nowhere. The last 8/10 years the summers have really sucked up here. About time it's nice. Almost makes me want to stay. NOT!

What's the humidity like with those higher temps? We've been in the upper 90's to low triple digits but with 100% humidity before 10AM. Just curious how it compares.

I'm jealous... 100+ degress is hot no matter how you stack it. But add 100% humidity on top of it and you need a chainsaw to cut through the air! I can't walk the 50 feet to my mailbox without being drenched by the time I get back.

We've had a couple of weeks of 100* + here in Tucson and my A/C has yet to discharge a drop of water from the drain. I guess that's dry. We have had 1mm of rain since April.

Hmmm, weather.com shows Fairbank's hottest day in the last week was 90, I don't see how it could be possible to have a 14-degree variation even several miles away. Not trying to discredit ya but I am skeptical ;)

Richland Wash. recorded 104 yesterday, same as Phoenix. We're supposed to have a couple more days of 100s before it cools off. http://www.weather.com/activities/other/other/weather/yesterday.html?locid=USWA0373

Vaughn... don't put full stock in what the computer or weather channels say.

Here in Ocala, FL they have been saying temps are in the low 90's. Yet I have a thermometer that I know to be accurate that has read as high as 105 on a day when the weather man said it was only 93 or 95. This is not the 'heat index' but the actual temperature.

I don't have 100% faith in the 'meteorological field' as it were. Granted they technically only make "predictions". But more often than not they are a good bit off around here.

The other factors to consider is different elevations and cities versus forests.

Here in Ocala we sit just west of a large national forest. In town on any given night the temperautre can be as much as 10 degrees different from the forest temps of only 10-15 miles away. The buildings and streets absorb a lot of heat in the daytime and then at night even though the 'ambient' temperature should be cooler the heat is released from said building and streets.

Vaughn,

I see you live in Pasco. When you are by the river that runs through town isn't the temperature less than say 8 to 10 miles away in the desert? Same thing what XJ says about town and restricted air flow and heat absorption. The airport where the offical temp is taken is out by the Nenana river. I know that in Vegas and Phoenix it is hotter in town than when you get out from amongst the buildings and concrete. We will pay this winter for all this fantastic weather. I just wish it would stay like this. We live up here for the summers like the people in AZ live there for the winters.

Klenger, I just came back from Tucson 5, 6 weeks ago. I didn't know that you lived there or I would have called for a cool lemonade or something. Went to the air museum. Was way cool.

We also get down to -60f once in a while. We have over a 150 temp swing within the year.

WDaniels what part of town hit 104f? I'm skeptical myself. Considering the Nenana does not run near Fairbanks (its about 35 miles away). The Chena flows into the Tanana at the south end of the airport. Keep in mind that the Chena also flows right through downtown Fairbanks.

And how is your thermometer setup?

Phoenix Record Heat !

6/26/90 = 122 degrees ! interestingly, if you add the numbers on the left side of the equation it actually totals the record heat that day. they had to close the airport as the FAA flight charts did not go above 120 degrees.

'twas hot !
