Why no more annual TDR Rallies?

slow site?

In the last week or so the website is so slow. There are times that the connection will time out trying to open a thread on the forum. Is the website having issues????

Thanks

Rick

Nope, no known issues and I haven't had any complaints other than yours. Server loads are extremely low - less than 1. 0 at all times (2. 0 being fully loaded). Traffic is nowhere near the throttle (peak has been 4. 37mb/sec - throttle is set at 6mb/sec right now). When your having trouble try doing a tracert to the site - hit your start button and click on run - then type "command" and hit enter. At the C prompt type: "tracert www.turbodieselregister.com". That will trace all the routers between you and the TDR server. You won't actually get to the tdr server but you'll get to the router right before it (globalcompass). Look for any asterisks which means a timeout is happening at that router.

You may also want to check for spybots if you don't do that - they are a MAJOR problem these days. I recommend http://www.spysweeper.com - they have a 30 day trial before you have to subscribe. Another possibility is that you could have some software on your machine that is causing problems with javascript - the site uses a lot of javascript to operate. Have you added any software in the last couple of weeks like net security software, etc?

I've noticed the same thing this week Steve. Seems to be off and on though, was the worst on Wednesday. In fact at one point the site didn't open at all but I got a note from you saying it was temporarily down. That only lasted a few minutes. Not complaining, just putting it out there so Rick doesn't think he's crazy.

-Scott

Yup, same here. Was just talking to ToolMan about it to see if he had heard anything. At home or work, it's been slow.

I think around 4pm (est) on Wednesday the site wouldn't open for about 10 or 15 minutes.

It's been slow the last hour or so for me today.

Do the tracert's for me guys because I'm not seeing anything here to indicate an issue other than on wednesday which was about 4:30 or so eastern. I'm on nearly all day every day and haven't seen any slow downs at all.

before switching to the seperate server setup back in december we would be over 1. 0 almost all the time.

Since I reset the server on wednesday (1 day 23 hrs, 34 mins ago) there have been 10 queries that have taken longer than 10 seconds - out of 7,512,769.

Here's the traffic graph for the last 24 hours which doesn't show any drop in traffic either:

from my post above:

When your having trouble try doing a tracert to the site - hit your start button and click on run - then type "command" and hit enter. At the C prompt type: "tracert www.turbodieselregister.com". Steve, -I'm there with Rick & Scott, the sites been slow this week. I think it was either wednesday or thursday morning that it was effectively timed out for awhile, although I didn't get the error.

I run spybot, updated weekly. No new hardware or software if you don't include the MS & antivirus updates.

Running trace route is a good idea; I'll try it next time its slow.

Like Scott, I'm not complaining, just putting this out to show that perhaps it's more than just one or two individual occurences...

PK

Steve,

I did the trace route and here is what I come up with.

I got < 1 ms from here close(isp) to 139 ms response times. When it reached 66. 154. 95. 221. . it did respond but after that the "request timed out".

Rick

Here's the kind of output you should see from tracert. If you see any asterisks on there (other than on the 69. 61. 23. 10 at the end which is the TDR server because I have pings blocked out at the server) or really long times then that's where the slow down is happening. Anything before globalcompass.com (the last entry right before the tdr server) is out on the backbone of the internet and out of our control. If you are experiencing a slowdown you could save a copy of your tracert and post it here by typing:

tracert www.turbodieselregister.com >c:\tracert. txt

and then posting a reply on this thread and attaching that file to your post. When you do that make sure to also let me know the exact time you had a timeout or slowdown so that I can look at the log files for that specific time as well.

Rick, are you experiencing slow performance right now? The tracert will only be helpful when you are actually experiencing slow performance.

Your getting quite a few timeouts there Rick. Lines 13,15,17,18, and 19 are all showing timeouts which are all between you and the tdr host facility. That would definately explain slowdowns but aren't anything in our control.

Steve,

Whatever you have been doing... the site has really been running great for me over the last month.

Mike
