Have any of you had to replace the input seal on the 80? (I think that is what it is) It is leaking ever so slowly at the driveshaft yoke. How hard is this to replace? Any ideas on synthetic fluid swap? Maybe a new cover too. And by the way, how do you restack the clutchpack, what order and how much friction modifier do you need with the changes?

Give Dan a call at www.quad4x4.com. They offer complete kits for this sort of thing, including all seals, bearings, tools, and a how-to video for your truck (literally everything needed). And the price is decent, too.

I haven't done the input shaft seal yet, but I just ordered parts to do the axle seals (from quad4x4). I'm upgrading to a synthetic 80-140w and also adding the mag-hytec diff cover since I'm in there.

What year is your truck mine started leaking when it had 12,000 miles on it Dodge fixed it under warranty and it hasn't leaked yet got 169,000 miles on the clock. And it is called a pinion seal.

My pinion seal started seaping slightly at about 250k. Had it replaced at Blumenthal's (good price on parts) and found the pinion had a groove worn into it from the seal, so replaced it at the same time. You may need both parts.

If you have a grove in the yoke the get a seal with a speedy sleve , thats sheet metal peice that slides over the groved area and gives the seal a new surface to ride on, a bearing supply house should be able to have one for almost any seal application.

I thought all Dana 80's came stock with 75W140 synthetic, but it could have been different in different model years. Friction modifier is definitely required with the limited slip - 5% is recommended amount, but some guys add it until there is no chatter when cornering. Hope that helps.
