Large Load/ Long trip....

Dometic Recall Completed

When are you required to stop at the scales? I plan on towing a 32' enclosed race trailer, privately owned. The guy I'm borrowing the trailer from bought it used from a company, so it does have the old company's logo and graphics on the side.

With the old company logo on the side of the trailer I'm guessing that if you look like your over the min required weight based on the state your in..... you'll draw the attention of the commercial driver enforcement officers that will see you from state to state..... You need to be able to prove that your "not for profit", "commercial" to them..... any load that is for profit..... requires correct license, permits, etc..... including the licensing of the truck, trailer and your drivers license.....

This commercial drivers information is stored in a national data base and is available to enforcement officers in any state based on your drivers license, or plate number... .

I would suggest that you remove the logo from the company that owned the trailer before you... . If you contact your local state police, commercial vehicle enforcement division, they will answer your questions... .

Hope this helps.....

Thanks, that helps a lot. I was pretty worried about appearing commercial, and don't know how to prove I'm not commercial except maybe the title of the car that'll be in the trailer. I don't want it to come down to that though.

Scales

If you have a tag in NC that is a weighted tag and you are towing ANY trailer (RV excluded) you are required to have enough tag on truck to cover ALL weight of rig. Most pickups in NC do not go thru scales.

Just don't stop! The Virginia DOT will be more than happy to tell you if you did something wrong, I know them well :D!

Not for hire or for hire it don't matter in NC. If you are a 95 year old grandmaw with a 3/4 ton single rear wheel pickup with a weighted tag pulling anything other than RV you fall under regulations. 99. 99% of time DOT will not stop you unless you look dangerous.
