Why not to have a 4x4

Audi Tiptronic Transmission

I was welding the other day with my Millermatic wire welder, I forgot to clear the area properly. Now PETA is after me for giving welder flash burns to about a dozen house (or in this case shop) flies. Those poor little flies didnt know which of there eyes to rub. Woe is me.

Quickly pull off their wings. This automatically converts them from 'flies' to 'walks'. Walks are not on the endangered species list (yet).

Gonzo,

That reminds me of a story. When I was working at my old job a guy asked if he could borrow the mig welder to weld his car frame that had rusted thru. He forgot to take the welding helmet, so he welded without one. When he came back to work the following monday, his face looked like he had a bad sunburn. Also he face was swollen so bad you could hardly recognize him!

I never thought the light was that strong. I had new respect for the mig welder after that.

Wonder if PETA would have a problem with me shooting ground hogs. After all, I do feed the birds (vultures) with them. They gotta eat too. I dunno, maybe PETA would want them for themselves. I mean after all, hogs are "veggies" too.

I was once hard faceing the blade edge on a Caterpillar, continous welding for maybe half an hour. When I finished I turned around to find my 4 month old puppy behind me, it had been watching perhaps the whole time. Although the dog wasn't blind it never saw very well for the rest of it's life. Be aware where your pets are when you weld.

Flash burn

A bud of mine got his eyes burn,t and he was facing away from the welder. But he was in a ditch and got the reflection off the wall.

I had bought a 16Kw tow Hobart welder about 10 years ago.

I more so bought it as a generator than a welder. When my home made trailer broke (back half of a '47 or so ford) my friend convinced me to try and fix it myself with the welder. With no help or guidence (or support, my wife thought now that it was broken so badly I'd get rid of it... ) I went out and started welding the frame work for the tongue back together again. It broke where it connected to the trailer frame. While I was at it I added other supports... . But I did all of this with a tee-shirt on. I had welding gloves and helmet... .

Man was that the worst sun burn I ever had in my life... my arms, and even through my tee shirt... my whole chest and stomach. .

The sun burns healed and the trailer lives one... . the welds aren't pretty, but it was worth it.

...FOR SHAAAME, BILL, FOR SHAAAAME!

You mean you didn't get you little helper a welding helmet of his own?

More flash dance

When I was MUCH younger I worked in a lime quarry. The main product we made was agriculture lime (ground limestone) . The crushed lime was fed through a hammer mill powered by a D9 Cat. The hammers had to be bilt up every other day with a wire hard surface welder. The first time I welded those hammers I had on a light long sleeved shirt. But it wasnt heavy enough to protect against those nasty rays. I had blisters on my chest and was burned on my back!! That was a very good lesson. . Be careful when mig welding!

I got my first taste of eyeburn when my uncle was welding on a farm trailer back home. I was about 9 or 10. My eyes hurt for days. My granny sliced a potatoe and taped it on my eyes when I went to bed. Woke up the next morning and the potatoe was black from the fire it drew out of my eyes.

MIG welding can burn you pretty quick, but my vote for the fastest welding sunburn has got to go to the TIG. Spent about 5 minutes welding a broken chair back together and got burned pretty good. I knew it would burn me but had no idea that it would do it so efficiently with such a small project.

If you weld with a tee shirt that has a logo or picture on it you get a "burntoo"... yup an exact image of whatever was on the shirt!

Just think how much money we could save not having to have the TDR logo Tatooed to our chests! Just Mig or Tig welded. Besides, that way we could recognize other members at the beach:D  :D :p
