DIY Waste oil Heaters

Ok, I have a Lincoln Power Mig 255 and it is doing something really odd. It is acting like it's in "stich" mode, but there is no stitch mode on this machine. It runs for around 10 seconds, then stops. I can hold the trigger in and it will not start again though but if I release and pull the trigger again, it starts right up... for around 10 seconds ...

I did check the liner but it is not hanging up. It's actually stopping.

Any ideas?

Check the drive wheels and make sure they are the right ones for the wire you are running, and that they have the right tension on them. Check all the wires where they go from the whip to the machine and the solonid. Make sure the welding wire is clean and not dirty. Check and see if it has a auto reset breaker and see if it is triping or not.

Are the drive wheels actually stopping? If not, check the things mentioned above and if all checks out get a new liner. How old is your liner? Ours gets replaced about every fifth spool because we don't use it regularly but I've had it ruined by a single spool of bad wire... . keep that in mind.

Yeah, thet are the same drive wheels I've had for a while, everything is clean. I don't know where to look for an auto reset breaker on it. There isn't one in any obvious locations.

Yep. the drive wheels actually stop. That's what make me cancel out the liner. :( Too bad, that would've been an easy fix.

Do you still have the paper work that came with it?If not look on their web site and see if you can find a schematic and see if there is a breaker. might be a bad drive motor.

Had a rented unit (same model) that did the same thing. Took it back, worked fine there. Found that it did not like the length of the extention cord I was using... Too much loss. Was only a 15'.

Hope that info helps.

If it doesn't, I will show you how I solved the problem. :D
