I need to know if it is necessary to disconnect the batteries to weld on the truck. I am doing some exhaust work and don't want to mess anything up ( ecm, etc. ). All I plan on is several tack welds. What do you think, disconnect or not.
Well, I don't know if this is the right answer, but I've welded alot on my curent truck and trucks in the past, never had any problems leaving the battery connected.
Brad-Thanks for the link. Very interesting info on that one. I'll disconnect to be on the safe side. If I had done that right away instead of posting the question,I'd been done a long time ago. Thanks again.
the only time u will mess up a computer is when welding with alternating current (AC)
most cheap stick machines are ac only
alternating current is constantly changing its path so it is most likely to stray and mess with stuff, especially if using a high frequency starter (with tig welding)
if welding with direct current it most likely wont bother
BUT
it wont hurt anything to disconnect the battery so do it to be safe
