I see that there are alot of people interested in replacing there stock 4x4 control arms. I recently purchased a set for mine and want to know what you think. They were $1200 and that includedpowder coating gray to match my coils.

They look sweet! How much do they weigh? How does this compare to stock?

I'm mostly interested in the unsprung weight reduction a control arm like this might give.

I think the stock arms are the same thing that was used under my Jeep when it was stock. Front end of the truck weighs about the same as teh whole Jeep... let's use the same arms

Those arms look nice, but $1200 is way more than I'd spend for something like that! 4 Johnny Joints ~$200. 4 bushings and sleeves ~$100. Another $75 or so in tubing. Weld up and enjoy.

Also billet is bascially junk aluminum melted into a block...

The slight change in weight is not going to make any noticeable difference in suspension performance on our trucks - save your money.

Is everyone trying to be nice here or what? These are ugly. They appear to offer nothing more than a plain, tubular steel arm with urethane bushings at either end. I have bent control arms before, and without a doubt these would be stronger. I will give them that. But In reality, I would rather weld some rusty re-bar on to my stock ones, pure "baja fix-it in a pinch" style, than run these things. They would be stronger than stock and articulate better than these would. I could even keep them rusty to match my coils. Ha ha. They look BIG though, and I am sure that appeals to some.

In all fairness, I obviously haven't used them so maybe they work much better than they appear. Seems doubtful though. $1200 for parts that more than likely work worse than stock is hard to imagine. I sell rebar and rustoleum cheap!

I wonder about this all the time when control arms come up on the boards, so let me ask: Don't you want the arms to flex? Doesn't that provide better articulation and decrease harshness in ride quality? I agree the stock arms seem kinda lame for the size of the truck, but I use my rig offroad all the time and I've never bent one. What I see when I look at these particular arms is higher overall strength and far worse ride characteristics.

Now here's somebody who can educate me. Hey Kent, so what's the deal with control arms in general? Lay it in on us... Aren't you guys at KORE working on these currently?

Clinton,

Nope, we're not working on them any longer - our 7075-T6 aluminum arms are finished and on the market :) .

First production run is sold out. Steel arms are coming next.

As a courtesy to Weldtec I would prefer not to talk about control arms on this thread. If you would like to start a discussion somewhere else I would be happy to contribute.

Cheers,

Kent

I'd love to. Where do you suggest the discussion take place?

Like I said above, I always wonder what the ideal control arm would look like and how it would perform.

Clinton,

Just make a new thread. Title it what you want - like "Control Arm Tech" or something. Ask some questions and everyone will join in with thoughts and opinions. I will too. Control arms aren't as simple as most would like to think, so it could be a good discussion. I just don't want to inadvertently bad-mouth another product or get on a pre-existing thread that has a negative tone. I like to discuss technical stuff, but I don't want to get wrapped around the axle concerning other issues. People sometimes get pretty emotional about parts and I don't want that. They're just truck parts ;) . The neutral ground of a new thread should help that.
