Well after getting my truck done. I had a hard time starting it. Well it has been 1-2 months and doing some more searching and I was talking to a guy out west and we got talking about my 12v.

Anyhow I told him I am only getting 16 psi boost (top) and my mpg is way low.

Also he gave me some more info on checking and stuff. this all happened last night. He also told me about the star wheel and maybe it is turned up to far. Also it will smoke when it is cold out for about 2-5 minutes before it clears out.

Well today since it was warm out I decided to turn the star wheel the whole way front ( slide to the front of engine) drove it. Nothing no change. I turned it the whole way back ( to back of the engine) nothing no change.

Well I guess I am having injector or pump issues?

Anyone out there have any time to help me out so I can get squared back to stock so I can atleast get my fuel milage up. It just sucks I got rid of a problem engine to get another one.#@$%!.

Anyhow that is my sad story.

It does drive ok and pulls ok I just hate that I am only getting 1/2 the milage I can and very upsetting this is my beginning the new year.

smoking while cold sounds like low timing

Might be. never touched the timing. I am more worried about the low boost and the star wheel issue. from what I read if you turn the wheel clock wise it should smoke. Well I turned it as far clockwise till it would not turn no more and drove it. No change. boost is still at 16 tops flat to the floor and 800-900 on the egt.

Thanks for the help so far. If someone has time I would love to meet with some one and see what you think or please give me a call on my cell anytime.

x2 on the timing. For what it costs I would definitely get that checked out, timing can be a big factor, and ruling it out as either being a problem or not will definitely help in the diagnosis.

You can test the AFC diaphragm by taking it off and applying pressure to the sense line. The actuator lever should move as pressure increases. I know on my '96 when I didn't get the AFC unit put back on properly after playing with the cam plate I had a major drop in power.

Have you gone over your fuel system to check for leaks or restriction? How is your fuel pressure, ever replace the overflow valve?

thanks. Yes my lift pump, fuel filter and lines are new. I did not check that out but I am sure that should be ok with everything new. I could be wrong.

Maybe if I can figure out the afc and how to get it out and also find the sense line maybe I can check it. I will have to see where this stuff it at.

The '95 is setup a little different from later trucks so a waste gate hose leak should not make that much of a difference as long as boost pressure in the intake manifold is ok. My '95 AFC is connected to the intake manifold very close to the AFC. There is no direct connection to the waste gate. The hose to the waste gate is directly from the output of the turbo.

I have my '96 set up with a line directly from the manifold to AFC w/out the wastegate line & it got a leak once & definitely cut power.

How hard would it be to pull the AFC guts out of the housing & run without it. . . that'll provide all the fuel the plate allows.

Have you checked the plastic line that feeds the boost to the AFC and the fitting that is on the back of the AFC it has small orfice in it that could be plugged which would not allow the boost into the AFC Bring it to Calif and I would be happy to fix it for you.

I have a 97 engine. I don't think I have that.

Low timing causes the truck to smoke when cold? Never heard that before. My timing is set at 24* and smokes at idle, especially when cold???
