serviced my trans yesterday and i didn't think and pulled the drain bolt out before getting my fill plug loose. . had it all drained out [didn't open the covers as it was too cold, i'll do that next service] then decided to use my trusty home made 17mm bolt/nut welded combo and my weld decides to break [was just tack welded] so i get the welder out and reweld it better. go at it again and this time the 10mm bolt snaps. crap, dig through the junk piles for another 10mm nut/bolt and make another tool. that one snaps the bolt again. crap crap. dig through the piles again for another nut and bolt and finally get that plug out. .

oh well. . filled it up, and then added another pint through the top pto cover bolt hole. . trans shifting much nicer than before [was clunking into 3rd] and i finally popped for a 17mm allen key socket today, so next year if i can find the socket, i will be ready for that darn plug. .

I recommend the Snap-On CPT110A as being the tool for the job. It's short enough to allow clearance to get in there.

Nick,

What fluid did you use?

I bought a socket (like the one pictured above) at a local autoparts store for a couple of bucks. Worked great.

Extra pt. through the top hole in PTO cover??? I got almost all mine in through the fill plug (or so I thought) but my transition to Redline MTL didn't give the results I thought it would have or have read about on here. Maybe I need to put a little more in? Hmmmm

i put mopar stuff back in... there is a thread over on the DTR about overfilling the nv5600. some of the guys are going 1. 5qt over. . i didn't want to go that high, so i filled until it came out the fill hole, plugged it back up and added the extra pt [a little over a pt actually] through the top hole. .

fast coolers is something i would like to add someday [with clear covers to see the level visually]

they key i got is like below, but the allen key is only 1/2" out from the body

I think the long allen sockets won't clear the front driveshaft making the stubby socket or VW drain plug socket necessary.

I just drove mine foward onto a couple 2X10 placed under the driver side wheels.

That got me the extra fluid I wanted.

Take off the shifter and pour the fluid in from the top. If you know you want 5qts, just pour in 5 bottles. No spillage.
