I got to thinking that Adam and Eve probably didn't eat meat, before they got caught eating something else. If they didn't eat meat before getting booted from the Garden of Eden, then maybe man was made to be vegetarian.

Wrong answer Doc. Our teeth are made to eat meat as well as plants. If our teeth were not designed to eat meat you might have a case. Two eyes in the front of our heads just like all the other predators are a clue too. You ever have to sneak up on a cucumber? Prey animals, like deer and elk, all have eyes on the sides of their heads to watch out for US!

LS, I always thought we had eyes in the front so glasses could sit on our nose. Also think that our teeth are more suited to opening packaging than carcasses. Wonder if Adam and Eve had Tuna Helper?

its ovious they didnt eat meat. there was no killing before they made their big mistake and disobeyed god and were driven out of the garden. we were designed to be vegetarian

Where does it say that at? Remember there is no indication of how long Adam and Eve were in the Garden. It's easy to assume that it was only a short time since it is only discussed in a few verses, but that is not necessarily so. While it does not say definitively, I believe God intended for us to eat meat. People in the Old Testament clearly ate meat and I don't believe they were ever admonished against it. And our teeth are clearly designed for it.

I am not a theologian, but this thread made me get out my Bible and start reading it. Genesis 2:9, 16 & 17 says God gave man the right to eat all the food that grew out of the ground except for the fruit of the tree of knowledge. Genesis 9:2 & 3, God gives Noah (after the flood) the right to eat animals. This was not granted before then.

You are right that Adam and Eve may have been in the Garden a long time before they were kicked out. Adam was given the job of studying and then giving all the animals an appropriate name. That must have taken quite a bit of time.

But to answer Doc's original question, I believe Adam and Eve were vegetarians and man up to the time of the Flood, did not eat meat. I personally love meat and eat it some form of it every day.

Koa, I read the verses you mentioned and you could be right. I'll have to study a bit further. I was not aware of the verse dealing with Noah.

This is kind of ironic, because the reason I had the Bible out was my wife had just mentioned that the manager of the building where she works, told her the previous manager (a weirdo), had set the access code to the building at 666. He said "That's the Devil's number. " My kids asked, "Why is that the Devil's number?"

We told them because it says that in the Bible. Naturally they wanted to see it for themselves. I knew it was in Revelation. Had to hunt a bit but finally found it. (Rev. 13:8) Then I go read the TDR with the Bible still on my desk and I see Doc's thread.

Now that you brought up Noah. . What kind of tools did he have?

I think our teeth are more suited to eat vegetation. Dogs are true carnivores and they have pointed teeth, unlike our mostly flat ones. I think we have big front teeth to rip husks from coconuts.

Maybe Noah and others in the early days lived longer due to the fiber they ate.

Wiz - what do you think the fruit of knowledge was?

I'd say that Adam and Eve didn't have navels.

God made Adam in his likeness, so Adam must have been a pretty cool dude.

The next place to look is at the children of Israel. God sent manna (Heavenly Golden Grahams). After awhile, they wanted meat! So God sent quail. And, he let them eat quail until they were sick of it! Then He (God) gave them VERY specific instuctions as to what meat was clean and what was not. Those VERY explicit instuctions are mostly ignored by Christians today. With regard to the number 666, this is the number of a MAN! The Anti Christ! Please understand, ANTI can mean against OR in place of. So the Anti Christ is someone who is against or stands in the place of God. It is not a computer or any other THING. The Bible is very clear. "It is the number of a MAN". When you get into the truth is when the fur starts flying.

I think Eve wanted to be is sales of vegtables because why else would she make adams banana stand

I heard that adam was down on earth for quite some time when God finally came back down to talk with Adam about how things were going and Adam replied that all was pretty cool other than he was lonely and would like companionship. God replied with he could bring down Eve , a beautiful woman that will help him , comfort, assist, love, and just plain help out, Adam said this would be too cool , how much is this going to cost me and God said an arm and a leg , Adam said wow what can I get for a rib:confused:

Doc makes a good point about teeth. If you do want to compare teeth, human teeth resemble those of horses, for example, more than a lion's or dog's. Also since many like to compare the similarities of humans and monkeys (they are the closest thing to us genetically), I believe monkeys are completely vegetarian (could be wrong though).

This discussion of Adam & Eve, Noah, etc. is interesting. Growing up in church this sort of similar discussion came up more than once, I never dreamed I'd come across something like this on TDR :)

There have been a few studies done on vegetarian vs meat diets and there is compelling evidence of going with a vegetarian diet. One example is osteoporosis, the instance of osteoporsis among women who have been lifelong vegetarians is considerably less than the rest of the population. Eating more greens provides more useful calcium than dairy products. Also, consuming a large amount of protein causes the body to lose calcium to counter the effect of too much protein. Of course this sort of info is not readily publicized because of our huge dairy/beef industry.
