More help for P0107 problem

Hi All,

Just installed a fuel filter kit I got from Western Diesel. Got it on Amazon.

I really like the filter head and the bracket that came with the kit...it seems well made. Obviously, only time will tell.

The bigger lines are also giving me a bit more pressure at idle and while pulling. Overall, I'm happy. Hopefully the injectors will be too.

Good looking kit.

At your next filter change I would look at the FF5814 from Fleetguard. It uses the NanoNet filtration media that was developed just for common rail application. It’s rated at 3um. There isn’t, IMO, a better filtration media available.

While the Cat filter is a great filter it’s much older technology and under modern standards is a 4um filter. It was a 2um filter back in the early 2000’s and somehow still gets marketed that way by dealers.

Thanks for the tip! I feel bad having something cat yellow under there anyway hah.

What change interval do you run on your filters?

I ran an interval of 18 months, 30K miles, or a pressure drop.

Once I changed for a drop of pressure at 14 months and the rest of the time at 18 months.

@Mschuman88 how much room do you have between the radiator hose and the fuel filter hose? Diesel vibration and the engine moving under load or braking may rub wearing a hole there or "SNAP!" off something important. It may be just the picture angle, but, it looks bad for rubbing.

AH64ID is a great fella and offers only the best advice he can offer with current knowledge. I’d trust his advice anytime. ;)
He’s a good sparring partner too! :D
Mschuman88, that sure looks like a nice kit. The filter head looks impressive. What’s the purpose of the third, black line? Gauge?
I agree on the FF5814. I change mine annually.

Good point, I’ll take a look at it again today. The filter head was actually tapped in multiple location so you can orient the filter head differently. I chose that to make it easier to change the filter. Maybe moving it would work better. Thanks for catching that

Hey Wayne,

It’s just a hose to connect to my sender for the fuel gauge closer to the firewall.

Thanks for all the advice on the change interval!

Looks great, jealous as my Jake pump is right in the way for that install.

The only thing I would do a bit different would be to install the fuel pressure sender right into the filter head, extend the wiring and remove that third hose.

Any senders on big trucks directly into the engine block, filter head, etc....

What’s the main reason? One less place to
Leak? Or more accurate reading?

Just to confirm, do you change the stock filter at the recommended 15k still?

Also, I was using the Baldwin 5 micron in the stock housing before I installed this kit. Is it ok to go back to the fleet guard part now?

I changed all 3 filters I had at the same time, but my stock filter had become the 2nd inline.

I would keep using the Baldwin and change it at the OEM interval since it's your 1st line of defense still.
