Antique engine & tractor show/tractor pull in Stonewall,Tx

I'm going over the before leaving checklist and wondering what else to look at on my Journey. I headed from Oklahoma through Kansas to Colorado then up to Wyoming accross to Rocksprings Wy. then up to Jackson Hole and the Tetons over to Idaho Falls then down and around to Oregon with a final destination ending at Portland Or. after a few days there I plan on headed up to see Bill and Piers(I have a copy of my Birth Cirtificate to get accross) for some chat. I'd hate to think that even though this is going to be a faster then normal trip that I would mis something cool just because I didn't drive another 50 miles so i'm asking you guys/gals that travel up that way for some feed back. While in Portland we(family lives up there) plan on going to Crader Lake on the 5th I believe, then coming home through Colorado(west side), Thanks for any input.

DONT FORGET UTAH!

I was born and raised in Oklahoma, and never thought of Utah as a hot tourist destination. But, a few years back, I had work to do in Farmington, NM and Evanston, WY. I put the wife and kids (not in school at the time) in the truck and we headed off.

I was VERY suprised by the amount of beautiful scenery and nice people in Utah. Since then, I have done a fair amount of work there. If you are on the west side of CO, go to Vernal, UT see the book cliffs and the dinosaur fossils, then take the drive through Roosevelt, Heber, Park City and SLC then head down the east side of the state. Moab, UT is a must see. Arches National Park is there, and it is one of the best I have been to.

There are quite a few members in Utah. HeberRam is one that comes to mind.

Go see the Mt St Helens visitor center. It's only a few miles off the freeway and has some interesting things to see. This is only 50 miles or so north of Portland, I don't remember how far exactly.

Thanks for the input, I don't know if i can get them to got to St. Helens but I will try!

me4osu... ... I made part of that journey in 96' flying into Salt Lake and driving back with Mom, I've been through Moab and those red rock hills... . BAD A$$... . and have been to the Indian Ruens(sp) in the 4 corners, then when south at Pagosa Springs to New Mexico. I was thinking about going to Grand Junction tehn down to Gunnison if the fires are ok.

Jim

When you go to Grand Junction, take some water and a gas mask. :{ :{

After, if you head to Gunnison, take the back way in. When you get to Delta on US 50, head east on C92. This will take you through Crawford and into Gunnison. There really isn't anything there, it's just a nice drive. It will also put you on the north rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.

If you're into fishing, Gunnison is the place. Unfortunately, the lake is VERY low and all of the rivers are flowing low and slow. :{ :{ I was there at the beginning of the month (June) and the fishing was ok. On the up side, a bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work. :D

Have a fun trip.

After living in the NW most of my life my favorite place is still the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area, just 30 miles east of Portland on the Interstate, don't miss it.

If you have the time, drive the 2-lane highway on the Washington side of the Columbia vs. taking the freeway. Much more scenic but it is a slow drive once you get west of Maryhill Museum/Stonehenge replica.

Multomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge is a must see if you get that way and southern Utah is great at Zion and Bryce Parks, really beautiful.

Get a "Canada Non-Resident inter- province motor vehicle liability insurance card" from your insurance company. This will verify that you meet the minimum liability requirements for the province traveled. I've read that the card can save one a lot of hassles in case of an accident. Your insurance company should provide this free of charge.

Pets will require current shot/health certificates.
