I'm in the middle of installing my Westin oval tube steps. The drivers side went on easy - no problems. However when installing the passenger side I noticed that the mounting brackets are identical to the driver side. This presents a problem because it doesn't allow the strap to attach the the bracket.

The mounting bracket should be a "mirror image" of the drivers side, but rather it's an identical match. I'm thinking that the parts kit was assembled incorrectly?!?!

Has anybody else had this problem or just me. Or are your brackets identical - and I'm just not seeing how it fits together?

Thanks

I just had a set of Westin's installed at a local shop. I am very satisfied with the install. I have my digital camera at work, if I can I will take some pictures of their install and if I can figure out how I will post them.

Okay - call me stupid.

I figured it out. It didn't seem like it was going to work, but once you tighten up the bolts to the rubber bushings it allows the strap to fit. It's a little tight but it works.

I have to say that I'm very pleased with the results. It took about an hour fot the entire project.

do you have any rubbing on the rear mounting bracket? my rear bracket rubs on my cab mounts and squeaks a little when driving... i've been meaning to get out the grinder but haven't yet...

I did notice that the rear mounts were a tight fit, but haven't noticed any noise as of yet - I'll have to ride with the stereo off and the windows down!

I'll let you know . . .

my westin kit was as you described. both pieces identical instead of mirror. I didnt even use the strap only the two brackets on each step. The set I got was for a 1500 and I would have had to drill the frame to match the hole in the strap. They are plenty strong so I didnt worry about it.

like you i thought the parts were wrong also, glad to hear that's how they do it.

very easy to install, about 45 minutes or so, no drilling , very sturdy
