I just noticed today that my floorboards are getting wet the passenger side is much worse than the drivers side, it is wet all the way up the front of the rubber mat, by the looks of the floorboard on the passengers side it has been wet for a long time. Any ideas?

thanks,

Cory

It's probably coming in thru the third brake light lense behind the cab. This is a known problem. Take the lense off then silicone it back on. I would also recommend pulling the carpet and drying it.

I went thru this a few months ago, Could be A/C not draining properly or a leak in the 3rd brake light or both. New gasket on the brake light and install 5/8 heater hose about a foot long on the end of the A/C drain. The drain is horizontal where it runs thru the firewall and nothing stops the water from backtracking into the cab. Both of these have been discussed in detail, do a search and you'll find the threads.

I did check the a/c drain and it was dripping outside but I suppose it could still be getting back inside also, I'll also get a new seal for the third brake light, if it was the brake light would it get that wet all the way up the front of the rubber mat?

I agree probably the A/C, get the hose it's a cheep fix.

On my 97 the third brake light was the culprit and, yes, the front will get wet. +1 on pulling and drying the carpet. I ended up getting a new one from Mopar, mine smelled so bad and was old anyway, so it was a good excuse. :D

Likely any water entering the cab will show up on the front passenger side. I had several sources for the leak. I ended up pulling out all of the seats and carpet. Then had a friend run a garden hose all over the outside while I watched for leaks inside. My rear sliding window was leaking because the rubber gasket shrunk and was leaking. The seal around the door between the front door and the quad cab door was leaking and my windshield seal was leaking.

All of the above, the a/c leaked, I got the hose on the end. The 3rd brake light leaked, I had it shaved off before I put on the sleeper cab. The rear window leaked, it too was removed for the sleeper cab install. As for the carpet, I had to remove and replace the insulation padding underneath and then I just cleaned the carpet really good.

What does new carpet cost, my truck has water on the passenger side also, and it smell's like crap!

IIRC, I paid $425, and there were only four left in Mopar's inventory... . this was back in 2005. Keep in mind this was for a 97 extended cab, so I don't know how many carpets Mopar still has for the '01, but the cool thing was that the carpet for the 97 fit like a glove and the truck got that new smell again! :)

when the brake light leaks, I suppose it goes down the corner and runs up to the front along the edge under the little plastic kick plate at the door right?

I found in addition to the stoplight leaking the sliding rear window trough can leak at the ends where the silicone sealer had pulled away from the body on the inside.
