Wet Floorboards

The way that I use my 91 it would seem that the freaking floorboards an the carpet are always wet. I've searched for a rubber floor mat but nobody seems to manufacture one. So I have an idea that I need some feedback on.



Can anyone see a problem with removing the stock carpet and coating the floor with one of the over the counter bedliner kits. It would seem to me that the liner should keep the water from getting to the metal and rusting a hole in the floor.



Other ideas?

I have the same problem. Check the door hinges for play and then look for cowl cracks. Unfortunately the cracking problem is not just 4x4's as my D-250 has cracks on both sides. If the door hinges are shot, the door will not be tight against the rubber seals and water can enter there. Also check around the windshield to see if there are any leaks at the corners.



Let us know if you find any thing.



As far as coating the floor panels, that can be done but I would consider it a bandaid type fix. You would never be able to coat everything that could corrode.

As far as coating floor with the bedliner in a can a guy I know just did his 77?bronco. Took his time and followed instructions. It look really POOR. Wasnt at all like a spray in job. He then decided to cover it with rubber mat like a new non-carpet truck came with. THAT look good!

I bet I can tell you your problem. . I found this onmy 92. Take off your lower kick panels on both sides. Run you a bead of silicone where the cheap felt gasket is at. Let it set up a little and reinstall. I bet your floorboards will dry up..... Just my 2 cents. .

Good tip, thanks. Mine floor is always wet, but only on the drivers side. I have a question related to this. When I adjust the vents on the a/c, I hear it crunching a bunch of leaves. I figure they may be packed up over a drain hole, but I can't see an easy way to get to it. Anyone had leaks because of this, or found a way to fix it?

When I did my NV4500 conversion I found some slight surface rust on the drivers side floor. It was easy to tell where the water came from. There where two holes in the floor where something had been bolted on at one time. So, all I had to do is seal up the holes.



I coated the entire floor with a sound deadening rust inhibitor, since all of the carpet was out. Now it is a little quieter in the cab, and it should stop any rust from forming. I guess if it starts leaking anywhre else the carpet will soak it up and make it smell bad. But no rust!

I've had mine apart about three or four different times and resealed it and now it's leaking again It's a real pain and it doesn't seem to seal. I have a new windshield gasket, the door hinges are loose, and I'm pretty sure that I have cowl cracks. Do the cowl cracks allow water to rain into the cab?

Yes cowl cracks do allow water to run into the cab.

Wet Floor Boards

I had the same trouble with my '93 D250, but only on the driver's sice. At this stage in the winter, if I lifted the floor mat, the water would run out of it, get half a cup in a minute.

Located someone locally who was into repairing water leaks, he had the windshield out and resealed it, also on the driver's side where the air vent enters (forward of the door), was leaking there also. For quite some time I had the trim off just inboard of the door rubber and kept a mid size newspaper in under the carpet to soak up the water, changing the paper weekly.



Had the mats up again recently removing some wiring just before I sold the vehicle, dry as a bone after a year.

Does anyone know where I can buy just a rubber mat kit? I haven't been able to find one.
