Since I have the only truck at a shop with over 50 people that work there,

I get asked occasionally to pick up or drop off some things. With my '96 it was ok, novelty had worn off, I kept the truck mint, and it got a couple of scrapes, but nothing serious.

It's on the way, no problem. It's for a customer, no problem, We need this for the showroom, no problem.

This time, with the new megacab, I get asked to pick up a display, and backing in to a dark loading bay from bright sunshine,

I crunch the passenger side mirror. I misjudged by about an inch.

Looks bad, I will probably replace it, because, although it is cosmetic, and everything works ok, it's my new toy, and I am CHOKED!!!

Tell the boss what happened, and let him know why it happened, and no offer of payment, or anything. $500 from the dealer, or about $250 on ebay.

That is the end of that. They can rent a frickin' truck, next time.

In the 10 years that I have owned a truck, I have probably moved their stuff into shows, etc, and saved them hundreds, if not thousands of dollars...

Rant over.

I think you have a rite to rant, after donating your trucks service for that long your boss should have at least offered something.

Scotty

yeah, he should have offered something... he77 lunch would have made me happy... a nice lunch, but still lunch... its the thought that counts. what about spending that same 250. 00 and having them both pulled off (buy some cheap non tow mirrors off of here to use for a week... ) have yours smooth sanded, and color matched to the truck. they could repair the one while they do it... .

I whacked mine also, actually my g/f did it on a bank drive-thru brick pillar. Just a few dime size holes on the arm of the passenger mirror. I still haven't decided to leave it or try to do something about it. It was the first major scratch but won't be the last!

As far as work stuff I use my bike or the truck. I used my '99 to bring tables back from a trade show once, that was fine, used my '06 for hauling drywall, CDX, and studs from the Depot. They stopped reimbursing us for mileage and no truck allowances were ever given. So, I take my time doing it, it gets me out of work, sometimes gets me a decent lunch. But yeah, I realize if it breaks due to helping work, it probably won't get taken care of by my employer.

Nick

Actually, I thought of just getting a set of Chrome covers, but they wont work, because of the tilt-up feature of the tow mirrors...

Painting might work, though... I might check that out, see what it costs.

Thanks for the support. I look forward to seeing the look on their face when I say no

to their next favour.

Replace the mirror and hand the boss the bill. If he b**ches tell him he can buy a truck or rent one. I use my truck for work on occasion and at least the boss drops $100 a month in fuel. Joke them if they can't take a f**k!

I wouldn't beat around the bush with the boss anymore, tell him that if the company isn't willing to fix the truck when it is damaged doing their business, then they can find a different means of doing that business. Don't wait to surprise them the next time they ask, let them know now what the consequences are.
