Check this out, The state of California won't regester a new truck that is bought out of the state of california. I would have saved around $8500. 00 dollars buying a fully loaded diesel from Tom chaney in kirkwood MO. Man what a rip off the state of Ca DMV smog law says that any vehicle with less then 7500 miles on the speedo and does'nt have a "California Certified" sticker not a " federally Certified" sticker under the hood will not be allowed to be regestered in the state of california. Big lobbiest rip off.

It's the Dealer done you wrong, or rather, YOU done the Dealer wrong. not the State of California. Some years ago was thinking of buying a Dodge Cummins in Texas, town of San Antonio, the Dealer offered it (new) $5000 off, on learning I was from California said he could order same vehicle California legal for same price, also in Buffalo NY same thing, on asking of Sales Tax etc. said no New york sales tax or registration fee, but on returning to California would pay California sales tax and registration, of course he was assuming I was returning to California shortly. Don't try and buck the system, they were up before you, plus they can see you comming a mile away, just be honest, you'll get it in return, you can bet they can play the Shell Game better than you. (had more practice) Have a nice day. Scrum Down

P. S. re out of State problems. The problems are yours, to wit, I have a Motor home registered in California, at present located in NY, the registration run out 2years ago, on enquiring to Cal. DMV to drive vehicle home without having to explain to every State Trooper on journey, said an out of State Smog Cert. (need to have it Smogged befor issuing new Cal. registration) would not be honoured in California, however to call the Telephone Desk and explain,a new sticker (on payment current fees) be issued and on returning to California get vehicle Smogged at earlyest possible date. Be up front then no problem. Scrum Down

Do what I did, use an out of state address, register it there..... then when you have 7500 miles on it, switch it over to Calif..... no problem.

Went to the Cal DMV to get this mess strightened out. I was told that any vehicle that has a 50 state california sticker under the hood could be brought into this state without the 7500 mile limit. the 7500 mile limit is for vehicle's that dont conform to the "california legal" sticker under the hood. The only penalty is the state tax and license fees.

this is all old stuff now that the MIGHTY cummins is 50-state emmisions OK!!

I will confirm on BISH77's truck when i gets here (exhaust clamp issue has it delayed in IL) :(

Tommeygun,

Can you, (or any dealer for that matter), get better info than the DC care line can give us?

My truck has been in JS now for about 10 days according to DC. Maybe due to the exhaust clamp issue?

Thanks,

George
