I hear all this talk about different air filters and induction systems but can anyone jump in with their two cents on which is going to give me the biggest bang for the buck??? I can't see how anybody would pay $400. plus for something that was made for $30. and doesn't do squat to help squeeze a few more ponies out of the barn. I just want something better than stock to help her breathe better and keep the temps down in the exhaust(that's gonna be changed too) and I wanna get by as inexpensively as possible. Any suggestions? :rolleyes:
 
Billy, Get your self a BHAF, it will fit on the ppe were your current filter box is, its about $45. 00 at NAPA, Fleetgard, and other fine truck part stores. Just search up "BHAF" and have a week or two of reading. Moose00
 
ditto on the BHAF. inexpensive, lasts for 30k+ miles, excellent filtration with the paper element and good flow with a ton of surface area. Other $300-$400 setups WILL give you more power above the 450hp range, but I don't think they are worth it unless you're looking for those last few ponies
 
Well the BHAF isn't always the least expensive option. With a BHAF, you definitely need a heat shield and also a prefilter which will keep water from coming into contact with the paper element. When I ran a BHAF, the setup cost me around $100. That included the filter, Larry B's heat shield, an Outerwears prefilter, and a 4" conduit coupling to make it fit as good as possible, and I got a deal on the filter.



I'm not a big fan of the BHAF because I believe that it's not a very efficient filter. But I won't go into that again here. If you want to keep the stock air box and not spend over $200 for an intake system, then just get a drop-in AFE filter from one of the online vendors.



If you want the best intake system with the best filter for nearly half the price of one of those AFE systems, then get a Scotty II. I love mine and you wouldn't be disappointed with it.
 
Well I guess there's room for more than my opinion! :-laf

I did get a heat shield, but I have the filter direct to the intake tube and have NEVER seen indication of leakage. I don't run a pre-filter and again, I have NEVER seen moisture on the filter. I have run through some EXTREME rain, creeks and puddles empty & towing, pretty much any condition you can imagine.
 
Same here, I've ran through some ridiculous rain and I swerve to hit all the standing water I can because I like the rooster tails it makes behind me (I like to play) and I've never had any water hit the filter, nor have I ever had a problem with the intake leaking. I don't even have a heat shield.

I'm making one as we speak for no reason other than because I think it will look good when I'm done, filter never touches the turbo, and the filter never gets hot, a little warm, but you'd be warm too if you were sitting 3" from something spinning upwards of 150,000rpm.

IMO, go with the BHAF.

Are these equal in performance or is one better than the others. I need to get rid of some smoke... maybe I put too much oil on my K&N...
