Searched and couldn't fine the answer to this question. What are the normal operating temps for an Aisin. Ambient temperature yesterday was 17 and I saw 150 transmission temp running empty. My previous truck the 68RFE wouldn't be anywhere near the warm. What can I expect for temps while towing? I have had this a week and so far I love this thing! Well except for the fact that the radio won't stay muted when you restart the truck.

130-180...the Fan will engage at 200F if below 30MPH to cool it down, I've never seen 200 when driving pulling City. You will need to turn the radio to 0. I also have 2013 Dual Radiators.

The transmission is bolted on to a 190°F Engine. Wouldn't worry about temp until it crests 250°

Isn't 150° F just warming up to operating temps?

I'd worry more about cold operating temps than warm temps.

I consistently see 150-165 "unloaded" for our service trucks. The highest I have seen on the truck I run hooked to 22k trailer in 95 deg weather was 186 deg

If your worried about it being too cold it has a thermal bypass to keep it warm when the ambient temps are cold.

I was just seeing a big temperature difference between the old 68RFE and the new Aisin, the Aisin runs hotter than the 68RFE in the same drive cycle.

My 2016 68RFE will run at 150 as it warms up. I’m in New England and I saw temps in the high 140’s just running unloaded up the highway to Boston recently, temperatures were cold outside too, like in the low single digits.

I completely disagree! My 68RFE ran cooler than most on here from double deep pan and AMZ/OIL.

I am completely stock and my AISIN runs 165-167 with or without a load. I rarely see it in the low 170's.

I am VERY impressed with how well the AISIN keeps the temps low. I tow 33-35K across the West with grades of 6% and higher are the norm.

This is about the hottest you will see my AISIN get. This is towing up a LONG grade from the Columbia River on I-90 near the top with 33K combined.

The 68RFE follows the outside temps much more than the AISIN.

Towing heavy about 165.. once in stop and go up an 8 percent grades with stops I hit 220..

You have seen 220 with your AISIN towing?

I have been in stop n go and seen higher temps but NEVER anything like that even in 2nd on long 2% grades. Pic is near top of a long 14% grade. That's as hot as I have seen towing 33K combined.

My 68 RFE would go to 200+ just blinking an eye. The AISIN has yet to see 180 degree's even pulling a 18K Toy hauler as hard as I could pushing it up a 6 % grade. The 68 RFE would go over 200-220 on the same hill and same Toy hauler..

What caused mine to go so high was we go one car length and then stop over and over up a very steep grade.. the RV comes in at 13000 lbs... This was on the steepest part of hiway 299 to Yreka from Redding...

Mine is usually 168 loaded, unless I’ve been pulling a long hard hill then it’ll jump to 177-180.

had to edit due to big thumbs and a small phone screen.

I towed some pretty good grades out west last summer with my 12,000 lbs. 5th wheel... with my Aisin...never got above 180 even with the engine fan roaring to keep engine cool...going up some long, hot and high grades. No temp issues with the Aisin

220 degrees F. is a normal high end under heavy load for most transmissions. If you're getting up to 250 it is getting too hot and you should look into upgrades like a shift kit and a stronger torque converter. My 4R100 has an extra large cooler at the grill and rarely gets above 120-130 during daily driving, around 180 when towing on hot days.

Ok so we have discovered that Ram has put a thermal check valve in line between the trans and the cooler on the pass side of the truck. This thermal check valve does not start to open until around 153 degrees. It is not fully open till it hits 175 degrees. I have been working with ATS to make a delete for this check valve so we can run the fluid up and thru the cooler at all times no matter what the fluid temp is. We have made a few prototypes and installed on a couple of 2013 and up trucks. Fluid temps have gone from 215 in city driving down to 180 degrees. And hwy temps have dropped from 190 to as low as 138 degrees while cruising at 75+ mph on the highway. Ram has made several changes to this check valve so we have been trying to make the most usable delete block that will work on the most trucks. Once we have them available they should sell for around $80. Cheap insurance that you won't melt your trans down. I discovered this check valve because one of my customers had one stick shut on his way home and he ended up melting down the 68rfe. Aisin trucks have the same check valve on them.
I'll try to attach pics with this post. ")
