My transmission started acting up in the last couple of weeks.

Background

I always(even warm) put the transmission in neutral after start up to start fluid circulating, as I was told it does not in park, for about 10-15 seconds long enough to fasten seatbelt and roll out of driveway. Pull heavy (GCVW 23,000-25,000) ~ 500 miles every 2 weeks (Texas flat land towing enclosed 5th wheel). have 44,234 miles on truck (about 20,000 of it towing) Have had Amsoil and Mag-Hytec in truck since 22,000 miles I have the extended warranty 5/100 $0 deduct Checked fluid level. due for all fluid change at 45,000

Symptoms

On warm restart truck hangs in gear runs to/near red line before shifting. Release go pedal and it just stays in gear (1st to 30-35, 2nd to near 50, 3rd about 60-65) once it gets through the gears then it starts shifting normal again.

Is my transmission dying?

#1 symtom of a dying trans is a burnt smell in the oil on the dipstick. I'm no auto expert but your's sounds like an electronic control problem.

Yea, Thats what I would think also. A buddy of mine has a 02 with the 47re. It did the same thing, it was a electrical part/connector??? on the transmission. Costed him about $100 at the transmission shop.

Well I finally had an oppurtunity to leave the truck for a week with dealership and they found a scratched valve body on 1-2 solenoid. They replaced the complete valve body and installed some new clutches (work order does not specify which ones or part numbers). Two strange things though they would not reinstall the spacer block for the double deep pan, and they raised the fluid level ~1/2" over full (middle of the bends in dipstick) told that this was because the reverse something or another was out of the fluid and would be dry if left at "full" mark. anyone ever heard anything like this? seems like it woul start blowing fluid as it expanded. Asked if there was a TSB or other info on this that it will not void warranty nope told they were instructed in a seminar to do this and Chrysler is not making a new dipstick that has proper level marked.

Well that was noted in a seminar back in 1998 or so. It was to help stop the buzz noise in reverse. I'm curious if its still recomended in 2005?? It won't blow any fliud out.
