A very good friend of mine owns a large refrigeration company and they have two divisions re; new construction and service. His fleet is about 120 units and is a mix of pickup trucks and vans, all of which are diesel. One of the new construction guys who's been an employee for over ten years was driving his new F-350 and it died on the side of the road. They had it towed to the nearest dealer which [they] discovered gasoline in the tank. He had just filled the truck [about 20 gallons] and the receipt shows diesel. So, what are the odds that the stations last fuel drop could be the issue? I don't know any fuel drivers but Big Nasty might be able to shed some light on this. It just seems unlikely that could have happened. Anyone had an experience similar to this?

No personal experience but have read/heard of this happening and the offending compay footing the bill for repair.

HAPPENS DAILY!!!!

FOR YEARS I've asked why we can't get different unloading heads for each product that would prevent this from occurring? COST was the answer. Even with my idea it wouldn't stop AH Drivers from intentionally doing it.

I hate to say it but drivers aren't always the most honest people in the world. In 27 years IM PROUD TO SAY THAT I DIDN'T "F" up. But I've witnessed other drivers intentionally cross drop fuel. Not DSL to Gas but Gas to Gas. Example: the place the truck was spotted the hose wouldn't quite fit to drop Premium in the Premium tank. Our trailers in Commiefornia were a 3 compartment pull trailer the gallons were 1900/1000/1900 the driver had a compartment that the hose would hook up to but it was full of Regular He looked at me and said 1900 gallons is 1900 gallons RIGHT?

I might sound like a goody two shoes but I never talked with him and a few others that did simiular BS PERSONALLY!! I'd help ANYONE FROM OUR COMPANY OR ANOTHER COMPANY if it was work related. I feel that if a person thinks they needed to put Prem in their car then DAMN IT HES GOING TO GET WHAT HE PAID FOR FROM ME ANYWAY.

Being pressured to drop as many loads a day as a driver can is a recipe for DISASTER!! I could load a truck in 15 min and drop a load in less that 30 min and did an the avrage of 1175 loads per year ( the lady that kept records) told me that when I retired. I generally ran 1 to as many as 6 loads a day depending on distance from the rack to the station, if it was a pump job or other factors to numerous to mention. I was paid EXTREMELY WELL for what I did and took pride and slept like a baby knowing that I got paid for doing it the way the company that was paying me $34.00 an hour and fuel card bonus $250.00 a month, $7K at the end of the year and a 15% cash bonus of your gross wage, my lowest yearly gross was 85K when I had a knee replaced and took time off when I lost my Mother because I felt that I didn't think I should be driving a 8800 gallon bomb with that on my mind to do it THEIR WAY not taking SHORT CUTS that ultimately caused someone to come out pump out a 20 K tank full of contaminated product replace it with the right product.

No experience with the purchase of bad fuel, but contamination does happen at the station.

Many years ago, I stopped by the Loves station in Wamsutter, WY for a sandwich. There was a tanker truck that was pumping out an underground tank for this very reason. Several empties and a few with fresh diesel to make good.

Not sure of the fate of the drivers that didn't notice, but I hope they made it to where they were going.

My friend has the fuel receipt with date and time stamp and the tow truck info. He said he was going to personally visit the station and see what they have to say. I'm guessing that there have been others if in fact gas was dropped in the diesel tank. Ford dealer said $ 3000.00+

Trust me if you have the receipt they know EXACTLY WHO, WHAT & WHEN THE DRIVER MADE THE SCREW UP. If it was done at anything other than the most REMOTE Mom & Pop station they will have a " Veeder-Root" system that keeps records of ANY CHANGE in the fuel tanks from amounts in & out, pressure within the tank and lots of other BS that I never really concerned myself with because it didn't apply to my end of the food chain.
