What are these things worth, anyway?

I read Thierry's comments with interest, since I'm trying to sell my '92 W250. I had it advertised a while back on this site only for $3500 with a broken trans. I must have gotten 30 calls on it, but no one came through. Now, it's fixed and I'm advertising it for $4800. One call off TDR ad. Put it in the local Trader last week, no calls. It's a fully functional truck, could use some body work, but there's no rust.



Am I out of line? Seems asking prices are $10-$12K for a nice truck, $6 to $8K for an average truck. I thought $4800-ish OBO was reasonable. What do you guys think? Or is the market just slow for the old-style truck.

Seems very reasonable. I heard about a similar truck last fall that the guy was asking $7500 for. My cousin rode in my truck this weekend and was drooling all over. I'll tell him about yours. Not sure how serious he was.

Hello, I have a different question about how much are these things worth? My 93, 350, dually, 5sp started life as a 2dr std cab. Stretch Rams of Little Rock (I think) made it into a 4 dr. After the accident, my insurance company is only going by the VIN # and is calculating repair costs based on a 2 dr std cab. Insurance company will only accept comparables for 2 drs. So, has any member or friend of member recently sold or know of a sale of a conversion truck? A conversion from 2dr to 4dr would be best, but I am after any ammo I can get. The insurance company is low-balling, ignoring the 4 drs, ignoring the accessories, etc. They've got it all going their way. I need to learn how conversion trucks compare in the market with stock bodies. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks. DES

dsoloman, I have had that experience on our kids vehicles. Just starting to get into it on mine. I have been hit 3 times since October. 1 hit and run on Lowes parking lot while parked that gave me a new front end, one side swipe while parked, and one rearended at a stoplight. Three of our kids cars were totaled in accidents where other idiots either pulled out in front of them or rearended them at lights. I told the a hole low balling adjusters to take their average sale price and shove it real deep where the sun don't shine. I got out the St. Louis newspaper, on line ads, etc and found all the similar vehicles I could find with the list of equipment and prices. then I showed them where eveyone of them had twice the miles and told them now you go find me the same vehicle with the same equipment, miles, and condition and buy it for me. Imdemnity companies are in the business to replace your loss. I told them find it, buy it or cough up the cash it will take me to do the same. I stood my ground and they coughed up. I also made them pay for any tune ups, tires, or any other improvements made in the last six months because that made those vehicles in better than average condition. Our Next to oldest daughter is an adjuster and if I had to put up with the crap that they make her do to screw people out of money I would strangle her good. When some idiot backed into or what ever happend to the front of my Truck at Lowes in Mayfield, KY I made them put all new genuine Chrysler parts on. . I told them I usually keep my vehicles 10 to 15 years and I didn't want any paint/chrome peeling rusting imported crap. It came with Chrysler parts and it will remain with Chrysler parts. If I wanted salvage yard I would have bought a rebuilt wreck for less money to start with. Don't ask them crap TELL THEM. I guarantee they don't repair limos as sedans or coupes. They don't insure buses as chasis. These people get paid to screw you around and and stall for time. every quarter that they put off claims makes their bottom line look better for the stock. I have even typed up lawsuits after I have had enough crap and sent it to the main office or taken it to the adjuster and given them 24 hours to settle or it will be filed. ask for class action status. say as policy they try to screw insured. ask the court to seize and hold their assets until such time as a jury can determine adequate compensation for all parties involved in the class. I show them I won't push over easy. try it. Good luck.

Wish i had some money I would like an old body style truck price wise your not out of line I know a vet that was trying to get ride of his 89 with something like 800 to 900k on it for 4500 about a year ago this truck was ruffffffffff both door s bearly hanging on dented bashed bald tires 3 or 4th trans 2starters 3 alts and nothing else to engine BUT it had the nicest tail gate I have seen just like new.



good luck finding a buyer there should be some one looking for a nice truck at reasonable price.

I went truogh the same thing when an Uninsured, unlicenced, unregistered B...

tee boned my 89, the insurance assesed

it as a 1/2 ton gas and only offered $3500 less my wreck which I demanded back, after 2 months of playing and telling the Insurance company to put my hand on a comparable truck in the same condition, they finally settled for $12400 and my truck back.

I did some major (BFH)hammer adjusting on the door and drove the truck for 6 months before finding another 89 truck as a rolling chassis and rebuilding the 89.



I want to tell you I have had a hell of a time finding parts and trucks, I usually just shell out and pay for good trucks.

My 92 4x4 had been listed for $6800 and I got it for a lot less, My 93 4x4 I bought from Ebay with a bad motor

( hole the size of a grapefruit above the starter motor) I had to pay $4400 for that and that gave me all the parts

for my Ramcharger Conversion even though I was force to use another motor for the rebuild.

Everyone always wants a good deal, but think about it, as some of us had to pay good money to get what we have and I certinaly am not going to just give it away.

For those with a DODGE CREW CAB and a Cummins, my first one I built appraised at $15000. I had it appraised just before a moron woman blew a stop sign and totaled it . The insurance company sent out an adjuster and he said it was totaled and in the same breath said the truck's book value was only $5000. I TOLD him that the truck was professionally appraised at $15000 AND I had filed that appraisal with the insurance company, He about I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER!! The insurance company paid me $12000, and I kept the truck. Right after I got the second crew cab on the road, I drove it over and had it appraised to the tune of $18000.





Just keep in mind, ANYONE who has a car or truck that they have sunk a bunch of money into GET IT PROFFESSIONALY APPRAISED and FILE the Appraisal with your insurance company . IF the car or truck gets totaled or stolen, there is not much the insurance company can do but pay you for the appraised value(You Have to have filed it with the insurance company and have it on your full coverage policy).

Kyle, I am in the same boat with my Diesel Ramcharger, where does one get a vehicle appraised? Any help would be appricaited as I have a lot of work and new parts have gone into this vehicle.

Check out a Classic car dealer or ask your insurance agent for a appraiser that they use. Little secret, he who pays the appraiser, usually gets around what they want car or truck value set at !(within reason of course) Just remember to tell them time involved in the mods, they(appraiser) WILL allow increase in the value for YOUR time ! BUT, make SURE you have the appraisal INCLUDED on your auto insurance policy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
